theghostgirl
This is extremely wishful thinking but I would personally love someone to make their own or collaboratively with me a Live Another Life mod similar to the one the Skyrim community has. Maybe I don't want to be married with a baby, maybe I want to be a spinster with twelve cats or a homeless guy living under the bridge in Sanctuary. Somehow Shaun and that whole story line would have to be fiddled with and worked in so the main story line can be completed. Again though, wishful thinking. carrom77
A mod i would most definitely want to see. With some intelligently crafted reasons for the starters. A non to bad plot breaker would be the player starting in a white room in the institute and be let out/escape. You're obviously a synth or captive. It'll give the choices at start (teleportation) solid lore friendly backing. After that you'll have your freedom. Along with Obvious affiliated starts Sutch as Brotherhood/Railroad/Minutemen/Raider/AtomCats etc etc The storyline could be level triggered up to point the Brotherhood arrives, or hopped into by simply meeting key people: if you're a synth/escaped captive you'd have a optional agenda to find out more, however i still think this one should have a non automatic trigger so you wont have like skyrim in quests "Investigate this".. Some would prefer to NOT have that at all. So some start could be "Sandbox" Wich simply just toss you into a random settlement with no agenda but the one you make. Nexusaurus
I've stated this before in my own thread, but an optional thing could be to make the SS a voiced NPC with encounters at certain points in the game, and as the days go by the main quest will progress on it's own, bringing the changes that come with it. Zetsumi_Nihilus
An alternate start mod would go a long way towards accomplishing this. Getting any of the faction missions to make sense, however, would be difficult, at least pre-entering the institute, due to the fully voiced protagonist and how intergrated with the main story the factional quests are. However, it occurs to me that we have stuff like memory loungers in the setting. Perhaps an alternate start mod that lets you freeplay at your leisure, with the option to start the main quest by, be it voluntarily, accidentally, or forcibly having your memory rewritten to think you're a cryogenically frozen pre-war survivor looking for their kidnapped son. A bit of dissonance when it comes to Shawn reacting as if he was your son, but he was only a few months old during his only interaction with you, so he probably wouldn't know the difference, and would just chalk up the lack of resemblance to his other parent's genetics, plus a litte desperation to reconcile with his origins in his old age blinding him to what would otherwise be obvious. Low-impact and easier to implement then trying to hunt down and remove every reference to looking for your son and so on in the game. JTL2
I think to do this, you would have to remove the "talking protagonist". When first announced, I liked the idea the protagonist had a voice, but seeing how it just pigeonholes you into a narrow distinct personality, I wish they had never done it. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. And I'm sure anyone who plays a mod like this, would be okay with "loosing their voice". It would also make rewriting the players lines a breeze, and the NPC's dialogue could be recut/skipped as needed to fit your sandbox.
Thaulgor
I love the idea of the SS as an npc / companion. To advance the main storyline you have to take them along and help them find Shawn. Otherwise your just another wanderer in the wastelands.

I mean personally, I couldn't give a damn if the entire game is unvoiced and dialogue takes place through text only, like in Morrowind. Sure, it's a nice touch, but it's far from necessary, and I certainly don't understand this obsession Bethesda seems to have with hiring B-grade obscure celebrities to voice companions instead of finding more useful ways to blow their budget. The player themselves being voiced just makes it nigh-upon impossible to add any kind of content seamlessly. I love the idea of the SS as an npc / companion. To advance the main storyline you have to take them along and help them find Shawn. Otherwise your just another wanderer in the wastelands. That's actually a nice idea, but seems like it would be a huge undertaking, having to re-do every single dialogue in the game to check if the SS is in your party, and setting up alternative dialogue, while cutting out any lines that refer to the PC being from a vault, having a son, ect. jones177
I think having an Alternative Start mod would be great. I must admit I don't like the story line in this game. I also don't like any of the consequences of choosing sides in it either. The most fun I have had was not joining the minute men or any other group but starting & building settlements without them. When I play Skyrim I am not the Dragon Born & the mod Alternative Start Live Another Life allows me to easily do that. Later
xbon
really wanna see a proper alternate start mod... was thinking it'd be one of the first things released when GECK went open beta... I'm always discouraged by starting a new game because of the 30 minute long intros in bethesda games :| bonus points for random start akin to skyrim version and tons of different starts with random inventory (akin to skyrim unbound) Edited May 3, 2016 by xbon
