Settler Management Interface

HEEEEEEEEEEE

Recommended Posts

It's currently really annoying to figure out which task is assigned to which settler, to track them down, and to reassign them. I think a mod that lets players view and manage each settler's task (via pipboy maybe?) would make the experience of creating and managing settlements a lot more fun.

+1

Even a simple UI with:

  • A column showing all settlors, with their assignment, if any
  • A column showing all available jobs in the settlement (e.g. farming, artillery, shops, etc)
  • And a way to assign them would be fantastic.

It would be even better if there were other options like:

  • Sorting farming by categories (e.g. highest food output, or target resource to be harvested)
  • Being able 'lock' settlers so they don't switch

The current settlement design is a good step to build it in natively (kudos to those who started this process with the FO3 and FNV mods) but as always it seems, the interface contains room for (signficant) improvement.

I have an idea. To add immersion/sheer badassedness, make pulling up the menu a buildable interactive item that would go under the Resources > Miscellaneous category, where the fast travel spawn points, bell, and other stuff is stored.

Maybe a billboard/chalkboard with a bunch of faux writing that looks like the general layout of the menu? Or perhaps a custom-made "Crafting" Station that looks like a desk with files, a typewriter, and other stuff, with unique animations (would have to wait for Creation Kit, but think of how awesome it'd be.

Best I've found so far is 'settler rename'. Lets you run a batch file to rename someone assigned to farming to 'farmer'.

Even that doesn't work well, though. I've found guards farming even after being assigned to guard posts, and I can't keep a trader at the trading post for jack.

I like Jerohan's idea a fair amount, but it'd probably have to wait for the GECK. Come on PC version of Fallout 4! Sick of this halfassed console emulation...

Now I have six colonies, with around 100 settlers... and it is quite unmanageable!

Am I condemned to spend all my time chasing each to equip and assign a task?

Or should I give up these settlers to their fate to continue the quests?

We NEED a tool that shows in a simple table for each task

the current production / standby

and settlers available / working / requested.

It would be even better if we could assign them automatically.

Similarly, one should be able to supply a lot of equipment to the colony, the colonists would themselves divide among them, starting with the guards.

Possibly, this could be done in a table outside the game screen after reading the data in the game program.

there does seem to be SOMETHING ingame which allows settlers to do jobs themselves (farming and guards) but they seem to STOP 'self assigning' after 2 or so settlers take jobs. (IE 2 guards 'self assign' then no more, or 2 people start farming, afterwards nobody bothers doing anything except b&@*$ about lack of food/whatever)

A 'simple' fix would maybe seek out what ti is that makes settlers decide to start farming in new colonies and instead change it to a 'if there's a job to be done, and im not working, do that job' mechanic. (unless said job u already per-designated another to do)
