creating your own armor skins, how?

I never created my own mods, but I have some killer ideas for skins. I have worked with the Adobe suite for years now doing Graphic Design for random things, love this game and would love to add my creativity to the pile of mods for this game. Anyone have a tutorial or can explain to me what files to edit/replace to create skins?

if its just texturing you'll need to get the Nvidia DDS plugin and The BSA unpacker

Thers lost of tutorials http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/Category:Tutorials

should help you on the way.

I see a bunch of armor mods already on Nexus with different colors and 4k and the like, are they doing something different?

nah, we can do this with the tools I linked above, but we can not make them unique meaning they will change every item that uses the texture. Well, us non code wizards can't anyway thers other programs like TESsnip but that's not my territory, I'v never even opened it. Most of us are waiting on the Nifscope and the CK .
