I have been struggling to build a base and searched the net and learned how to use tcl to work around some of the problems I was having. Then today I came across this video of building tips - DOH. All explained in minutes.

I hope this works. If you are having problems building check it out. Just had to share it.

Those last few minutes with the tree house had some good stuff. Moving whole structures and the clipping trick are actually extremely cool... I've previously struggled with assembly/dissambly to get larger structures lined up, now I'll just move the whole damn thing.

Something he didn't mention (maybe he's not a primarily PC player), if you hold E not only can you raise and lower with the mouse wheel, but you can actually adjust the position by moving the mouse as well. It gives very fine control that you cant easily get any other way.

Does this work for everyone else? Specifically moving everything connected to a foundation.

It just moves the foundation for me...in fact, nothing with building seems to work for me like it does for others and i'm really confused.

Edit, nvm, i'm an idiot and don't listen  you gotta hold e

If you want, I can give you a good pro tip. Fallout 4 on PC is optimized to meet the lowest minimal requirements when designing a settlement. This means, that the game is only allowing you to design a settlement based upon the specs of: (8 gb RAM, Intel 5 Processor, and the graphics card NIVIDIA GTX 550TI 2GB or equivalent.) So, the annoyingly small size of allotted items you can build is a game limitation meant to cater to the lowest computer spec.

However, your ability to actually build a settlement is determined by your Processor and RAM, mostly your RAM, not your graphics card. I know this because I have 32 gb RAM and an Intel 5 Processor with a GTX 750 graphics card. My RAM is so high that it compensates for my Intel 5 Processor and graphics card phasing in pieces of my settlement in real time render without slowing down game performance.

Assuming you have high enough processing power WAY above the minimum requirements, you can actually use mods to add on to your settlements greatly and with with a minimum risk of crashing.
