*Spoiler warning* [wip] pip-boy institute teleporter into a time machine

I was guessing he was going to get a team together or something. Not to mention this would most likely take months, if not years to make. Solely because of the time travel aspects

It just a teleport script though.

The mod will only take long time if he will need to change world spaces and cells massively. Quest and scripting hardly takes time, a fetch quest can be made in 30 minutes.

Hell, time travel is usually always faulty in movies or games a lot of the time

And? Doesn't stop from making some cool stuff.

There is in fact, a time travel mod for FNV.

He will need to change spaces, such as the institute's lair. and get rid of the rail road's base as they have no reason to exist. He would probably need to get rid of the Brotherhood of Steel's ship too. And again, I bring up my question about voice acting. How would he get voices for the playable characters? I'm new to modding so please excuse me if my questions are a little nonsensical haha...

Here's a list of everything he's have to do as I see it:

Create the quest

Script the quest

Copy the opening level

Resceipt the opening level

Redo both the make and female protagonist's dialogue

Edit vault 111

Edit the Institute base

Edit the Railroad HQ

Edit anything referencing these places

Edit the NPCs in these locations

Edit the quests in these locations

Edit elements of the story to fit these new groups and locations.

Edit the endings and after-ending content.

I'm probably missing some things here, but this isn't a bad general list.

As a whole, I think this could be a really cool mod! With the 1 out of 5 chance, that is oddly specific. Especially knowing that for a device that hasn't been tested yet. A simple fix would just be having the scientist to say something like "The device hasn't been tested yet. We don't know what could happen if there's, say, a failure. Now, I'll be frank. There is a slight chance the device could fail, ending most likely in you're death. The bolded text is the one that you could replace instead of 1 out of 5.

Apart from that, i don't really see anything else wrong with it, until you get to actual game-play aspects.

1. Having a 1 out of 5 chance of dying every time I use it could be tedious. It adds something that could frustrate players with bad luck, as it's random. So here is my fix: Instead of having intelligence to 10, you need to have luck up to 10. Other wise you encounter death when you use it. This removes random death for no reason, but still keeping with your idea. Death in a game should always feel like the players fault, random chance is not their fault and it is not fun constantly having to reload because the game decided to kill you.

2. How would you get voice acting for the playable characters? I don't have a fix for this. If you were doing a mod like this I would suggest them having voices as it would be extremely jarring for hearing your character speak throughout the game and then him not. Regardless of people liking him having a voice or not, it would still feel weird.

Overall this sounds like a cool mod but there are a few problems which will need sorting.

Woah! I never said they know it's 1 in 5.. the script will be 1 in 5. the 1 in 5 is not known.

1. Good idea! i like it!

2. The only one I will need to voice act is the scientist. The player char female/male will string together bits and peices to make him talk. might sound a bit wierd, but it will be voice acted.

and like i said it's just an idea right now til the geck comes out so the more ideas / support I get the more fine tuned it will be.

As stated above, I really think this idea needs to be refined more. For one, a 1/5 chance of death seems fairly arbitrary and unfair to a player, especially since they aren't being told of the risk. And, again, I really think the amount of work that would need to go into this is being underestimated.

Just gonna interject here quickly. This mod doesn't seem very feasible. I have a few reasons why I believe this:

1. This would essentially completely change the timeline in ways you might not have considered. It's called the Butterfly Effect, where something small can have big consequences later. When it comes to pivotal characters like the Sole Survivor and the Father, changing events surrounding them could have some massive effects that would potentially break the games story.

2. The amount of scripting and modifying that would be needed in this would be intense. The Institute would have to be reworked massively to fit this new version of events, as well as any other groups in the Wasteland that have been affected by the Institute.

3. This is a very ambitious mod for one person. I assume this is also your first mod of this type, if not your first mod at all.

I believe this idea as a whole is unworkable in its current state. The idea of Time Travel is interesting, but the details would need to be fleshed out a lot better.

1. There are ways around this.. perhaps he pulls them from another demionsion? there is always a work around.

2. Not really. the only things that will be modified is the players factions with BoS & therailroad & resetting institute back to before you met them. and refer to #1 about alternet demisions.

3.You would be wrong. I have modded may games for over the past 20 years. I have modded for all the fallout games. ( though most of my mods where private, only released a few) I have been around the block and know how to script and I think It can work. I expect the mod to take me 3 months from the time geck releases. Trust me I know what I am doing.

You are pretty spot on, just missing a couple things.

1. Then it's not time travel, and your mod becomes infinitely more far fetched. There's already a log entry inside the Institute that pokes fun as stuff like that. Not to mention you Then bring in various other problems, like the fact that you just made the story have no impact. Why care about anything or anyone if you know there's a device that can bring anyone back?

2. You would essentially have to change every single part of the Institute to reflect that change, down to the missions, NPCs, technology, ext. Then youd have to figure out how the Underground and Brotherhood would be affected by your changes, which would not only be difficult, but time consuming, as everything referring to what you changed had to be changed, and everything that is referring to what you changed because of the players changed also has to change.

3. No offense, but I have some trouble believing that.

A: What part about experimental don't you get? It's not going to let you bring anyone and everyone back.. it's a one time use. and it's time travel if your going back in time in another demision. or alternat time line that doesn't affect the present. whatever.

A: Not with the alternet demision. There is no pleasing you is there. you don't like other demisions idea and you don't like having to change everything to fix the differance. just stop..

3. No offense, but I have some trouble believing that.

I don't care what you belive. You would be wrong.

From here forward. Please vote on one of the following 3. Do not replty with anything else unless it's a positive reply.

1. Time travel and it changes the institute with a new director with gen 1 & 2 synths. ( Bos would still come after them, cause they are all about technology and brotherhood doesn't like that. And also remove all synth 3 from the world.

and possibly add a synth 2.5 something between a syth 2 and 3.

2. Time travel through another demision. Thus still having Shaun and everything else stay the same.

3. Alternet time line where the effects of the change stay in the new time line, but you and your family return to the time line you came from due to the marker that was set to lock on to. thus not having to change much in the world.

Pick 1 , 2 or 3 or reply with a #4 that is possitive and not negitive.
