Biodoll
Hi there. I took the freedom to overhaul a mod, people love. It's the "Divine Relevation" mod. It's fantastic, but the creator decided to include things people don't want in the first place, because they wanted what the mod promised: a flora overhaul and a jungle vibe. They DON'T want excessive bump maps, new textures for rocks and roads, 10 times more grass by default and flickering lights. So I cleaned said mod and oh look - it's even smaller in size. But the creator won't answer my question if I may upload his mod as a "enhanced/overhaul" edition. I even said that I'll credit him, of course. So, questionis: may I upload the mod with HIM in the credits or does this count as "theft"? Because really ... the community WANTS the changes and NO bump maps. Arthmoor
If he hasn't given you permission, then yes, it would be "theft" and uploading it anyway would likely result in you getting banned.
Biodoll
And if he keeps adding more and more of stuff people don't want and refuses to upload the mod like they want? If he - let's say - ruins it and never give a option to choose? How much do I need to change that I can use it as "my" mod?
Rational314
You don't get to change anything to claim it your own, you can create a new mod.
Biodoll
You don't get to change anything to claim it your own, you can create a new mod. So ... I just need to write my own readme and edit all the files and change some values and stuff; and say: "Here's a brand new mod!" - that's it? o.O Edited December 10, 2015 by Biodoll
ZeroKing
No. You need to create your own textures and meshes (or use the original game assets), not just edit that other mod author's stuff. Changing the values of that mod, adding your own Readme to that mod, and/or editing the existing mod files doesn't constitute making it a brand new mod. TheVampireDante
From the site terms of service: All files uploaded must have been created by the uploader or used with permission from the original author of the content. Such permission must be indicated in the Readme text attached to the file and/or on the Description page (or in the Description field for images), and must be obtained in advance, before uploading the file. If you cannot provide proof of consent then your file will be removed and your account is likely to be banned. TL;DR: No permissions? Can't use it. Arthmoor
And if he keeps adding more and more of stuff people don't want and refuses to upload the mod like they want? Then it sucks to be his users I guess. Stop using the mod. It's your only option if he doesn't give you permission to change it.
