soupdragon1234 Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) Theres a couple of deathhounds together with a couple of vampire thralls up in the hills near Rorikstead and they're not slowed down in the slightest by daylight. Draugr aren't diseased or aligned to a daedra like vampires, they're simply corpses with no agenda and no purpose other the faintest echo of the consciousness that once resided in them defending what they once valued from anything they don't remember. Draugr are dessicated remains animated by magic it would appear. Same as skeletons really but with more flesh on them - skeletons have to be animated purely by magic as they have no muscles - Vamps are classed as undead for compatibility with vampires in non-TES lore I would say. The fact that they can be "cured" or turned back into normal living humans suggests they were never really dead to start with. I'd like to see someone similarly "cure" a draugr. If vamps are truly dead why do they need to feed? Draugr don't eat as far as we know since they clearly have no biological metabolism. Similarly you can talk to a vamp but as far as I know no-ones ever held a conversation with a dessicated corpse suggestiing they have little or no consciousness remaining in that dry dusty husk. (cue huge arguments with lore fiends) (In point of fact, you DO often see draugr on the surface. Build the house up by Solitude and you WILL on occasion have draugr show up at your doorstep, having wandered on down from the nearby barrow.) If you're referring to the draugr corpses that spawn outside Windstad Manor if you check the i.d. codes they're actually the ones that are supposed to spawn dead outside nearby Highgate Ruins but show up outside the house on occasion for some reason. Theres also a couple of spawn-dead sailors from the shipwreck in the distance that show up on occasion too. Thats presumably more a game bug than anything else. :ermm: Edited December 16, 2015 by soupdragon1234
Boombro Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 (edited) If vamps are truly dead why do they need to feed?Because vampire. You really can't go in a fantasy type of book/movie/game and throw your knowledge, and logic around wanting an answer to how most things work. Most stuff in fantasy are not meant to be make sense using science. Stuff happen because they happen since explaining stuff using it is impossible, boring and very long. CaptainPatch Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 I haven't seen anything definitive about just who all the draugr are. However, I get the impression that most/all were interred during the era of the Dragon Cult, and that that most/all were in fact dragon cultists. There are several side quests that delve into the relationship between cultists and dragon lords. Part of that relationship was that "When the dragons return, we WILL be resurrected so we can serve them once more!" Traveling all over Skyrim, it becomes apparent that having large numbers draugr coming back to life has come as a BIG surprise to nearly everyone. Prior to Alduin's return, most draugr animation was conducted by the occasional necromancer. Very limited and quite understandable. But having draugr becoming active practically everywhere all of a sudden, quite the shocking surprise. So Alduin returns and dragons start to reappear, pretty much at the same time that large-scale draugr reanimation starts. Coincidence? I think not.
Boombro Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Okay it time to clear all this up, forgot to say anything about it. This is of course is copy and paste frim the UESP Wiki since I'm lazy. Draugr are ancient Nordic warriors who have been reanimated. Most draugr were followers of dragon priests in ancient times. When these priests died, their followers were killed, reanimated, and then sealed into the tomb where they would periodically awaken in order to worship the priests and transfer energy to them to maintain their undead state. Some draugr instead guard nobility and treasures buried in barrows and tombs. They often rest in catacombs or sarcophagi to awaken and fight when disturbed or alerted.Since dragons did come back, they started to awaken along with the priests.
