Moments you've enjoyed

Ok we've had quite a few topics about what pisses us off about the game but are there any moments, places, quests, characters that have given you a smile, brough a laugh, made you get excited, get a fright/scare etc?

I'll share mine.

First up, yesterday I had a mammoth play session on FO4, spending 10 hours on it. But 2 things I did in game yesterday made me really appreciate FO4 despite all the warts.

I went through The Secret of Cabot House quest and LOVED IT! IMO its been the best side quest in the game so far. For me, I really love the way in which they've woven in an ancient relic which reeks of Cthulhu mythos into the story. The quest itself was interesting, I liked discovering the backstory about the Cabots and found the battle at the Insane asylum to be one of the most challenging to date. I did go into the fight somewhat undergunned, just an had an auto-shotgun, Deliverer, some grenades and an auto Legendary laser rifle. The battle was intense with those Berserker Raiders being dam hard to take down. and despite them being bullet sponges this time it actually made sense as they'd ingested the mysterious serum in undiluted form which gave them almost super human durability. Anyhow, it was just great fun.

The next quest I did that day was Trouble Brewin' - the set up was nothing special but once you got Buddy the walking laser armed Beer Keg, well lets say escorting him through the ruins of downtown Boston, fighting raiders, Super Mutants, the occasional ghouls and Gunners... IT WAS GLORIOUS! Buddy is killable so you had to keep him from getting into too many fights but at the same time it was hilarious to watch this deadly walking beer dispenser gun down enemies with his lasers. I had Codsworth as my companion and I dam near lost it laughing when in the middle of a particularly viscous firefight with some Super Mutants he yelled "ARE WE HAVING FUN YET?"

Yes. Yes indeed we are!

And speaking of Codsworth I love his dialogue/banter in game. So far he's had the best lines in the game for me - some of which really make me laugh. I love the personality that he has, this prim proper english robot that deep down is a stone cold killer that loves a good fight. Yep Codsworth is worth every bit of game time you spend with him.

I do love the way in which Feral Ghouls can suddenly appear and charge you in a terrifying frenzied attack. I'd had a few real "OH s***"! moments where they've totally surprised me causing me to almost jump in my seat. That a game can do that is great!

I'll also give the Dunwich Borers an honourable mention however I feel that this could have been so much better as a location and also a potential hook for more story to come.

Over to you...

Honestly, I know that its slightly psychotic, but I really enjoy reading all the personal notes the raiders leave on their terminals as you slowly yet methodically murder all the big gang leaders. It's like... their glad that they alive, but at the same time kind of know that something is up. That with the Silver Shroud outfit makes me feel like Batman.

Oh, there are too many.

As I mentioned, I quite enjoyed listening to unique raider conversations and whatnot, like the Raider Psycho chick telling the story about the kid afraid by fire. Or the Hardware Town gang were a hoot. As a stealth character, I can just stand still and listen to that kind of stuff.

The Silver Shroud quest line, yeah, thanks for reminding me, JC, now that was an absolute hoot. And poor Kent is such a complete fanboy, you've got to love him :p

Liberty Prime was also just as big a barrel of laughs as in FO3. Hearing him go "The way is blocked by earth, gravel and COMMUNISM!" in the CIT ruins made me snort my coffee.

Nick Valentine's quests were also quite nice, with him aboard. And generally I just love his old-movie private dick personality. (Liked Ellie too. Like she tells me I can't mistake Nick because he alwas wears that trench coat outfit, then I see his mug, and go, "Heh, you could have told me something even more unmistakable about him.")

Vault 114 was a barrel of laughs, if you read the terminals and listen to the interviews for overseer. Especially the interviews.

Some of my dialogues with P.A.M. were also worth a giggle. (E.g., me: "I get to set up a new base? That's cool." PAM: "Agent's temperature is irrelevant.")

All the heavily scripted quests were also a nice change from FO3, NV and even Skyrim. E.g., hunting down the courser or yeah, the Asylum, and many more.

Some of the NPCs, like Ronnie Shaw or Deacon are also a blast.

The changes to melee, especially the higher crit bonus and Blitz, were also quite enjoyable. You might remember me as the guy who made a metric buttload of melee weapons for FO3 and NV, including Chinese halberds and whatnot, so, yeah, you can bet I thoroughly enjoyed being able to Blitz and do some massive critical damage with, well, just about everything from combat knives to Grognak's Axe.

Etc.

I get what you are at. OP.

I walked with Zoey, (My kinda adorable wacky PC) in her ratty skirt, modded into a plaid skirt... from sanctuary to diamond city... She did not run.. she walked.

It was a sunny day.. them oldies but goodies playing on classical radio, modded into 50's radio.. Me watching Zoey walk, no one attacked us.. as if they knew that this would be a rather bad idea.

Nature looks great.. me drinking coffee, waking up... it was the perfect morning. Well.. as perfect as can be, in a post- apocalyptic Boston/commonwealth. Playing as usual on survival.. But nothing happened. Just walking.. listening to good music that will never be made again... Its all boenka-boenka music these days... I felt a sense of loss... but just for a moment.. then bliss sets in again.

We are coming up to what's left of civilisation... Zoey sees a lone Super-Mutant running towards her... shouting: "You die now.. Human.." Zoey smiles.. she takes a shot of psycho... screams "f***ing Killlll..." and takes out her silenced pistol... walking towards this big green monster.. no fear.. no haste... just a cool heartless murdering stride.. and she puts a few rounds with surgical precision between the big green bastards eyes... He stops in his tracks.. as if he doesn't believe it... and then goes silently down... backwards... with a soft pathetic burp.

Zoey stands there for a while.. looking down on her victim... and i hear her softy saying: "Yeah... that's it.." and then she continues her walk, calm as can be.. 50's music still plays, and the sun still shines.

It was the perfect morning. Just me and Zoey.

I really love this girl...

Well, here are a few more fun moments.

- I'm following Kellogg's trail and run into that "killed" assaultron complaining that he can't feel his legs. And sure enough, his arms are blown off. Methinks someone at Beth has been watching Mock The Week. (It was one of Frankie Boyle's jokes there.)

- Most of Curie's comments, like the one about putting stuff in little bags for evidence, when I'm looting corpses.

- We're just finished with a small horde of raiders, both miniguns still glowing red, blood and guts splattered even on the ceiling, and Paladin Danse comments that we're obviously the first to set foot here in a long time. I'm like, "Sir, you might want to ask Knight-Captain Cade if you need glasses." ;)

- You know how once you cleared a zone of the original named NPC and it respawned, there'll be a random generic NPC as the boss that you need to kill when sent to clear the area? Well, the muties in Faneuil Hall had apparently chosen a mutant hound to be their new leader. Makes sense, I guess. It's probably the smartest thing in the building ;)

- I shoot a turret, and a raider nearby goes, "Noo! You've killed him!" I'm like, WTH? Was that raider one of Glory's buddies?

- I shoot a mutant hound in Fort Strong, and a mutie goes "No! Don't die, brother!" I just don't want to know ;)

After more than 135 hours of game play [this being my reroll game as well] I finally triggered the BoS arrival into Boston and boy I was impressed.

Now Boston really feels like a war zone with Vertbirds thundering about, BoS troopers dropping in and massive fire fights erupting EVERYWHERE! Post Apocalypia got more Apocalypse NOW!

And I'm absolutely loving popping smoke to get a dust off and rain mini gun death from above  This is a major step forward and while it does have over tones of FPS games like CoD, I'm really enjoying this aspect of the game.

I just wish I could actually pilot the Vertibird instead of just being a door gunner.

Oh and yeah, Curie's banter is the 2nd most amusing in the game. I actually feel a little guilty in taking her out into the wasteland and exposing her to the insanity that is there but war... war never changes

Oh, indeed. It's lovely to see all the firefights all over the place, without the universe waiting for me to start them. The funniest was probably when I'm trying to do Libertalia for the Institute (taking out a major raider gang didn't seem like a bad thing to do, no matter my opinions on the Institute) and a BOS vertibird comes by and starts shooting my courser, and the courser is all Leeroy Jenkins about it too. And I'm crouched in the shadows, betting on the BOS. Sure enough, they put the courser on his ass and clear half the raiders on their own before leaving, making my life all that much easier. And I didn't even call them or anything.

As for Vertibirds, well, I can understand why they wouldn't pay a bunch of programmers to make a helicopter simulator in a game that's not about that. My only wish would be that they'd bloody put a gunner sight on those miniguns.

Edit: actually, now that I mentioned, it that does give me an idea for my next mod :p

@ level 7 When trying to sneakily place a mine to blow up a car on the path of some supermutants I instead banged on it with a tire iron attracting a legendary mirelurk hunter over the hill next to me. It hit the other mine, crippled it's leg and i ran away. The supermutants arrived on the scene and melee hit the mirelurk once before the car blew up and killed all of them. It was the best trap I've ever set.
