What's up with mod users?

You remind me of a Southern Baptist preacher I head of. He had a subscription to Playboy just so he could condemn the pictures that he just had to look at before condemning them. (Or at least that was how he justified it to his congregation.)

Amen!

I'm not going to comment on what modders should or shouldn't be doing, or what offends or what's wrong with modding. That horse has been beaten to death over the years, there is really nothing more to be added.

I just want to extend my reach. That's all. I want to know what kind of content users are more likely to gobble up.

It's not too difficult to figure out. If it is in the hot files that means that people wanted it and quite literally gobbled it up. If it doesn't make the hot files it will either be because of bad timing of the release, or poor description page that fails to generate user interest, or the mod just doesn't meet the needs or wants of the majority of mod users.

As a mod Author you need to come to grips with the simple fact that you are not on the same page with the majority of mod users. Very few modders are. That doesn't mean there aren't users out there who will want the types of things you make, but they are in smaller numbers. Most mod authors are niche modders whether they like it or not.

This is why most long time authors will tell you they mod for themselves, because to do otherwise (mod for the community) will usually lead to bitterness and a general feeling of dissatisfaction and being unappreciated. Too many promising and talented authors have abandoned this place because they failed to come to terms with their motivation for modding - invested too heavily in hearing the praise and adoration of others.

Don't worry about being recognized as a great modder. Just enjoy making the mods you want to make and share them if you will. That's all that is necessary. Nothing else here really matters.

With your Lapis Lazuli Armor the description page is weak. You should get rid of that picture of the rock IMHO and replace it with a picture of the armor. That alone probably cost you a few hundred downloads. I can't comment of the quality of your work as I am not downloading any mods at this time, because I'm too busy working on my own Skimpy Slutty Inappropriate NSFW Non-Lore Friendly projects.

I apologize for nothing. As a mod author I do whatever I want to do without regard for what anyone else wants or thinks. :D

I think that that would be the same preacher that declared fornication a sin because it could lead to dancing.

One could argue clothing styles all day without any real resolve. Personally, when I see modern males dressed in huuuuuge and low-slung shorts I think it looks ridiculous... so I don't wear them. I remember that, in the 1960s, folks of my generation wore bell bottom trousers and some other folks ridiculed them. I wore them. In fact I was required by law to wear them..... I had no choice.

CCheers

Mundane sex appeal mods like generic dolled up female followers occupying the hot files section is pretty much the resting point when there's not much interesting material being released. They are constantly popular but generally they have a pretty low popularity ceiling. I've just found them to be a general signifier of creative drought. When something new of sufficient quality is released, it doesn't have much trouble penetrating through the noise. It does take some base level of manual marketing though, which is usually in the form of appealing and informative screenshots and/or videos.

The modern computer nerd has forgotten his roots.

There's a great deal of truth in the jpke that the internet was invented to trade porn faster.

You have men that never saw a naked girlie unless there was a staple through her midsection holding the magazine together, trying to impress each other.

The results are so obviously predictable, only the most brain-dead would be surprised.
