BlakeDaDrake
I've gotten quite fed up with leaving my tricked-out weapons in a crate on my base, and then coming back to find that some random farmer or companion has nabbed it. I know there are ways around it, by keeping your supplies in a location with no settlers or companions, but I like having a centralized location where I can find all my guns and companions in one place, y'know? So - what's needed is either locked containers (that you can stash stuff in so it'll be safe from sticky-fingered settlers), or simply a mod that stops settlers and companions from grabbing stuff from containers. I honestly have no idea which is easier. At the moment, the closest thing available seems to be Symbiant's Locked Doors mod - which COULD be used to make a safe 'gun-locker'. But it's a tad... limiting, in terms of settlement design.
Ethreon
Or you could just build a little shack with a ladder access, then take ladder away when leaving. Might take you a few seconds more, but it's worth it. You can also use console to lock a door - open console, click the door, type lock 1000 then press enter and close console. Follow same steps to unlock, but type unlock instead.
BlakeDaDrake
Mmm... true. The bit with the ladder is a tad... immersion-breaking, though. Well, not enormously so, I suppose - at least one of the ladders looks reasonably moveable, come to that. But locking and unlocking with the console? That'd just be a huge hassle, especially since I play with a controller... For now, I've used Symbiant's Locked Doors mod to create a locked 'gun-shed'. It works, but... eeehhh, I still feel like there should be a more elegant solution. Especially combined with the 'Weapon display' mods - I'd wanna display my guns openly, not locked away in some cabin somewhere!
AtmaDarkwolf
unsure if this would help any would-be modders for this, but convenent has locked doors that you get keys for, and the settlers are unable to open them(they re lock after u fast travel away) Maybe someone can add doors with keys in the build menu? Athanasa
Settlers will pick up gear and weapons left in crates? Do they equip it too?
volksjager88
i store all my stuff in the workbench in sanctuary, over 200 hours on this play-through and have yet to have something go missing.also make sure you never leave fusion cores in you power armors - this prevents stealing.i also well equip my settlers with combat armor and good weapons. SirTwist
In my pat and current play though, not a single one of my weapons or armor has ever turned up missing from where I store it. Of course I use the ice machine at Red Rocket truck stop to store said stuff. (Since it is in the vanilla game, and nice to store stuff in.) I figure that if anything will gone from it, it will be because of either a mod messing with stuff, or a successful raid attempt. (Which should never happen because I am using a mod that eliminates raid attempts.) I have used other storage in the building and had zero problems with things going missing. I don't know if you have a mod, or are taking away all the weapons, then scrapping them, and not rearming your settlers? I am not sure what's going on here. However, I do recommend leaving them armed with whatever they have until you can make better, then giving them \the weapons you want them to have, and some ammo. That may stop them. BlakeDaDrake
Well, first of all, I've just found out that Symbiant's 'Locked Doors' mod DOESN'T ACTUALLY WORK. I built a small metal shack, stuck a locked door on it, and put all my guns inside. I come back a while later and... find Nick Valentine sitting inside it, staring at me when I open the door. So yeah, still need a viable solution. As for why my stuff gets stolen... it's PROBABLY because of a certain stylistic choice of mine, that seems to be quite unusual: I like to stick all the ammo in the same crate as the gun. I find it... immersion-breaking that I can carry around 6000 rounds of 5mm ammo all the time, so I store it in a crate along with my minigun, so that I can easily collect both gun and ammo when I feel like taking it out for a spin. But yeah, you do that, and everyone who can get to it WILL steal your gear, AND use it. (At least keeping all the fusion-cores with me prevents my powered armor from being stolen... but once again, I can't store the fusion-cores anywhere, since then THEY will just be stolen, and used to power the armor, which they will then use.) So... maybe I can get around this whole problem just by ignoring the ridiculous amounts of ammo I'm carrying, or by storing it in a separate crate, but then I'll have to go through a list of 20 different kinds of ammo when I need to collect something, and try to remember what I've got all my guns chambered for at the moment... so yeah. I'd still much prefer having some way to get everyone to just keep their filthy mitts off my gear. Oh, and maybe I can also get around it by equipping all my settlers and unused companions with decent gear, but c'mon! My companions have INFINITE-AMMO weapons they can use per default, they should be happy with that! And my settlers are just supposed to run the stores and look after the crops - I've got a ton of turrets set up around the settlement to deal with attackers, so they really aren't SUPPOSED to be getting into scraps! DwellerBenthos
I've had the same issue, I store the cryolator in a container with some other weapons, and twice now settlers have taken it and the cryo ammo. First time, I had it stored in the general workshop inventory, and a new settler showed up, so I traded with her to take her caps and any other items. I always leave a new settler with the gun they arrive with since it's infinite ammo from what I hear. She had the cryolator and all the ammo for it. So I took it and stored it in a cabinet with some other unique but unused weapons. Just yesterday, a settler that had been around for a while had it. I just randomly traded with him and there it was, cryolator and all ammo. So I took it back again. Maybe the issue is that the ammo and weapon are in the same container? I see no need to keep cryo ammo on me if I'm not using the weapon, but maybe I will, and just leave the weapon itself in the container. As soon as a secure weapon display mod comes out, I'm grabbing that.

So if they're taking your stuff, it's cause it is better than a mere .38 pistol. Solution remains to build a place that is only available to you (use ladder, use an elevator mod, use some of the non-navmesh mod build block, use console etc.).
