Warmaker01
My top 3 overall settlement? 1. Sanctuary - First big one and ended up being my HQ of sorts. Does it all. 2. Drive-In - It's big and a pretty centralized location and a hub with my supply routes. Only bad thing is I have to wall off a significant chunk in the middle because of the nasty radioactive crater. It was also very heavily infiltrated by Synth Spies which were causing very bad happiness issues. I had about 22 or 23 settlers there and found out 3 of them were Synth infiltrators. 3. Jamaica Plains - It's not the biggest settlement. It's actually a bit problematic to make it turn out well. It's not that profitable. For my game however, it was important. I got a mission to clear and claim Jamaica Plain and it stuck out like I sore thumb because it was my only settlement in the entire south. I pushed south very late in the game. I beat the core story line and did most of the quests even before I moved south. Because of this, Jamaica Plain was at the frontier of sorts in the south, like the lone army fort in Indian territory in the Wild West. I got a lot of "Help Defend Jamaica Plains" missions. Because they see so much action, I have lavishly equipped whoever I have there. Everything tries to hit them but Gunners have been quite fond of attacking there. Jamaica Plain also has 2 nearby BOS checkpoints. Rare is the time that I'm in the area where I don't have to aid any of them. This settlement also got the MM artillery so when I finally decided to take over the south, Jamaica Plain was the one that provided artillery. The only other place that saw so much heavy combat activity was Hangman's Alley in my game. Spectacle Island? I got this one fairly late in my game also. Lots of potential because it's so large, seems about as big as Sanctuary Hills. The problem for me though is making it an important hub or "HQ in the East." The radioactive water makes it a PITA for Supply Routes. This limits its usefulness and appeal to me.
Boombro
I never been to the island, but it seems to have a hotel? Can use the hotel as one awesome hub?
JuJooGuppy
For those that don't like the Castle radio, you can turn it off, if you werent aware. There is a switch on the tower near the radio guy. If you are going to be there awhile, might as well turn the stupid thing off lol.My favorite settlement areas.. thats tough.I like Hangman;s Alley, aside from the bugs, performance issue etc. I love its closed space, I made a really interesting vertical town there. The island and castle are obvious choices for fairly obvious reasons.I havent built too many yet, but I like the looks of Warwick and Starlight as well. I think I can make some interesting things in both of them. Edited January 25, 2016 by JuJooGuppy

You can scrap the radioactive barrels, and the radiation goes away. =^[.]^=

Can use the hotel as one awesome hub?No hotel but there's a large ruined house on one corner of the island's shoreline that has a fancy little pier and a few shacks to go with it. You should check it out, everything involved in clearing it is a different experience than most of the other settlements. JuJooGuppy
The Island is awesome and massive - it has a few different style of locations on it by default, too. There is a wreckage of ship containers on one corner of the island, that are neatly set up to allow you to build a little 'container town' if you wanted. The other end has the housing and such as mentioned. There are also a few small huts around, and a boat. Plus plenty of open space on both land and water to allow you to build as you please too. Pretty neat :)
Warmaker01
A fun settlement to me that didn't make it to my earlier shown list is Finch Farm. Like Jamaica Plain and Hangman's Alley, it's in a very active spot. Gunners and The Forged are immediately to the North. To the South, the Super Mutants of Revere Satellite Relay. Finch Farm is a place I go to if I want to instigate a firefight that involves my nearby settlers. An example I just did was picking a fight with the Super Mutants south of Finch Farm. I thought I would be too far away for the Settlers to come and help but they all actually came running in. "IT WAS A FIREFIIIIIGGHHT!!!" The cavalry has arrived!http://i.imgur.com/W6CYmhG.jpgMissiles impacting near the Super Mutants.http://i.imgur.com/GJuslL5.jpgMy Settlers and Cait have a firing line going while using the low wall as cover. Even with Hvy Combat Armor and Ballistic Weaving, some of the Settlers still get put down by the Super Mutants. Poor Cait. Still trying to snipe with a shotgun. Also at this time of the screenshot, apparently 2 Settlers with short ranged weapons were flanking. I didn't see them during the time of this screenshot but they'll be a factor later.http://i.imgur.com/dWyjO9C.jpg... Aaannd the short ranged group starts firing, one of which had a Napalmer/Flamethrower as you can see.http://i.imgur.com/5V3i2tp.jpgThe "Firing Line" apparently was the Anvil while the flanking short ranged guys were the Hammer. It was they that finished this fight off.http://i.imgur.com/zBCYVay.jpg I had 1 Settler with a Quad Missile Launcher. The Super Mutants had about 2-3 with a Missile Launcher. This was on Survival Difficulty and the Super Mutants took a stupid amount of damage to bring down despite my lavishly armed Settlers and numbers favoring me. Poor Cait. I had her fitted with a Combat Shotgun.

Moraelin
And not have to hear that idiot DJ from DC Radio all the time. I mean, he was funny as hell the first time around, but after almost 500 hours of FO4, man, that stopped being funny about 400 hours ago.400 hours and you never did his quest? Oh, I did the quest all right, but basically it makes it even less funny. On the next playthrough, I didn't. I think I might skip it this time around too.
