redeyesandlonghair
I'm just wanting to know if there are any great performance-enhancing mods that I have missed. FCOM makes me face large numbers of enemies, so I bring a sizeable party with CM Partners, and the end result is that some fights get quite laggy. Here's what I have so far: Streamline (probably made the biggest difference so far)LoRise Cyrodill Complete (more efficient textures!)Oblivion Polygone Overhaul (more efficient meshes!)Somethingsomething Crash Preventer (not actually called somethingsomethign, I just forgot the name)Purge Cell Buffers - Cell ChangeOblivion Script OptimizationOperation Optimization*** *** - Is there something special I have to do to activate Operation Optimization? After I installed it it said that I could start the problem with the installed icons, but I didn't see any new icons to click on. So that's what I have so far. Is there some other wonderful FPS-increasing mod I have missed? Thank you for any suggestions! Is there anything specific I can do with Wrye Bash, say while rebuilding the bashed patch, or whatever other functions Wrye Bash has that I don't know about, that can improve performance? Also, I'm wondering if I have any mods installed that are notorious performance hits... so here's my load order if you happen to feel like looking at that! (yeah, there's some perv mods in there  ) I think some of the mods I have don't show here because they are merged into the bashed patch thingy there. lonewolfkai
Don't forget to use OSR. That might help increase some FPS. Also, Streamline has a purge cell option. You don't need that extra one. I'm not too sure about Oblivion Script Optimization. I thought it had issues with mods. No clue on Operation Optim. If you do use OSR, you'll have to change some of the settings for Streamline so that they work together.
HeyYou
Operation Optimization*** Oblivion Polygone Overhaul (more efficient meshes!) Oblivion Script Optimization The first two have been replaced by Pyffi. Its a program that optimizes meshes. There are tools available for oblivion meshes, that will optimize all of them that can benefit from it. Time consuming, but worth it. There is a thread for it on the official forums. Script optimization is really not worth it. You have to have a LOT of inefficient scripts before it even begins to have an impact...... Not to mention, rumors of errors in some of the scripts..... For a REAL performance boost, turn off Music in the Oblivion.ini. Very effective if you are using onboard sound, or, if you use Vista/Win7. eric31415
Try the 4 GB Patch. gave me a 50-100% FPS boost, area dependant. Found link at Tes4Positive in instructions on uninstalling/reinstalling.I couldnt play Oblivion without this. It lets me run some big framerate killers (Natural Environments, Unique Landscapes(all), RAEVWD, and Open Cities) on my LAPTOP!!! specs- Intel Core i3 2.4 Ghz dual core 4 gb ram 1696 mb graphics memory (only 64 mb dedicated) 500 gb hd Windows 7 64 Still need more? try RPG Black Dragons Low Tri Poly Grass. Also, when using Streamline with Oblivion Stutter Remover, you should set Streamline's desired FPS settings inside the parameters set by OSR.(10-31, if i remember rightly). Make sure you factor in the combat FPS setting( not adjustable in game, use ini.)
Telyn
Real Lights may drop your FPS a bit.
HeyYou
For the 4gb patch to be effective, (or, better know as Large Address Aware) you MUST have a 64bit operating system, AND at least 4 gig of RAM. Otherwise, its rather pointless. :D

sparken117
Ok im here to help on any forum i can find about enhancing oblivion fps and performance. People keep doing .ini tweaks and getting performance enhancer mods. For some this works. For others it does very little. I am one of them. Theres a misconception that oblivion engine is faulty and that is not true. Gamebryo (oblivions engine) is well made and balanced. The down side is its cpu intensive. Theres no multi thread problem and most of what people say is not true. If you computer meets the minimum requirements to run oblivion you good to go but theres one thing people are not seeing. With my fair bit of computer knowings and the help of a faimly friend who builds computers and is a programmer. We found out that most of the time with oblivion performance issues and .ini tweaks with performance enhancer mods not working is a buss problem (a buss is the system that transfers data between components in a computer). Its probably not fast enough to handle the flow of data or something is bogging it down and unless your a computer expert DO NOT MESS WITH A BUSS. i warned you. I hope this helps and im sorry but if you cant get oblivion to run smooth no matter what you try you just have to deal with it or buy a computer with a fast buss. This applies to any game. It all depends on how to game runs.
templeofninpo
I've been making a habit of using a .bat file that kills explorer while MO is running (re: the starcraft win 7 color fix-http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/8210/how-do-i-run-starcraft-brood-war-on-windows-7-without-problems ). Also Mage Equipment is a strangely huge hit to fps... just sayin.
