KyrilTheBreaker
So, I've been cruising around the Fallout 4 Nexus today, and I've been noticing something about the mods for it that didn't seem to be an issue for Fallout: NV. The issue in question being the fact that in order to get a good portion of the mods for FO4 to work, you have to add lines to an INI file, something which I personally have never had to do, with any mod ever. I'm a little apprehensive about getting and installing ANY FO4 mods because of this, as it seems like a recipe for my game not working ever again. So, my questions are as follows: Why in the hell do I have to add these lines myself? Why doesn't NMM or the MOD itself do it for me? Is it just laziness or are there actual coding problems that prevent people from fixing this? And most importantly, WHY is this even an issue for modders? Why did Bethesda suddenly f*#@ modders' ability to easily make changes? Are they suddenly butthurt over modders fixing the game for them? Anyway, thanks to anyone who takes the time to answer seriously and not just troll me. I'm actually genuinely concerned that I will shaft my game if I f*#@ with the INI files myself, that's really the only reason I'm even posting this. XD Any help/explanation will be appreciated~! :D
bLakZmOke
Just add the lines, it's nothing to be afraid of.
Rabbit1251
If you are concerned just make a backup of your existing ini's and put them in a safe place. Rabbit
Kastergir
If you are concerned just make a backup of your existing ini's and put them in a safe place. Rabbit ^This. I would be more concerned about the Data folder in "Fallout4" directory - since the most adviseable ModManager - NMM - actually DOES copy files into this . So, if you are getting ready to mod your game, and want to be kindof failsafe: make backup copies of the .inis you modify - before adding anything to them .make a backup copy of the entire "Data" folder - before installing any mod .make sure you are not using the latest official Beta Patch .Then, just do the .ini edits, download NMM, and get modding  . Anything goes wrong, you can easily restore your installation to Vanilla state . Your game "not working ever, again" is something that will NEVER happen . If all else fails, you can do a file verification through steam - or even uninstall and redownload . And even in the latter case, nothing has to be lost. Just before you do it, backup your saves, note down all the mods you had installed, install those again after redownload of Game, copy your old saves back into the appropriate folder and -Viola - you will be good to go again . KyrilTheBreaker
Honestly just not comfortable doing this. Guess I'll just have to be stuck with vanilla for now. Thanks anyway. ^.^
TheTalkieToaster
Have you even looked at the ini changes? It's just telling the game to look outside of the .bs2 archives for content (which is why it's necessary for any mod that adds new textures/models/scripts). You're paranoid. JuJooGuppy
Honestly just not comfortable doing this. Guess I'll just have to be stuck with vanilla for now. Thanks anyway. ^.^ What makes you uncomfortable about editing the ini files versus a program auto editing them? That seems backwards to me; I trust myself to make the appropriate changes more than a program (Not that I don't trust programs, but, they are prone to errors, or could be set up maliciously... just sayin :P) The changes to the ini files are really simple to do boss. Pop them open in notepad or wordpad, add the couple of lines, save, and you are done and ready to mod away. Make a back up of the ini's if you are really uncomfortable. If you really, really wont do it yourself, back your ini files up, and send me a copy, I will do the changes... but it seems to me you could easily do this. Have faith in yourself :). There are some fantastic mods out there, itd be hard to go back to vanilla for me lol.
