I finally got to the Old Guns Minuteman quest and I'm down in the armory with Ronnie Shaw. She tells me to grab the smoke grenades and the drawings. I have the smoke grenades now but I can't pick up the schematics - I get a message "This object is too heavy to pick up". So I continue to click around in different areas and nothing. Occasionally, I get that message again. It's like they aren't really there. It's like I'm seeing them, but the game is telling me I'm not. Any ideas?

Maybe you are carrying too much?

If all else fails, try saving the game, restart Fallout 4 and load the last save. Then try again.

If not, load a slightly earlier save.

Thanks for the suggestions. I thought quest items were weightless. Oh well. I emptied my inventory and tried to pick it up - no go. Still can't pick it up. Then I loaded old saves (about 5 of them). I get to that point in the quest and same thing happens. Shoot! I'm about to complete the quest with the console, but I hate doing that - never know what the side effects may be.

Any other ideas?

Wow, haven't had that happen. Maybe Ronnie wonderglued it down? She seems the type to play a practical joke.

There's something you could try, it's a royal PITA but it might work. Go find an interior cell such as the shelter under Sanctuary...wait there for 31 in-game days and try again.

I tried with Strong. He almost ruptured himself then kind of got angry. "This is NOT the milk of Human kindness, Strong hopes!" he, he He's a snap sometimes.

Haven't tried the waiting thing yet. What's magical about 31 days? Do you think it would work if I just stayed away from the Castle for 31 days? I just met Piper outside Diamond City and haven't done anything with the main quest yet; haven't even gone to her office.

Just staying away for 31 days would work too. Bethesda games have a cell reset timer that activates if you've not visited a particular cell after a certain time. That timer gets reset every time you enter the cell (this isn't the same as fast traveling there, just so you know).

Ooooops. I should have remembered that reset timer thing. I've played all the Elder Scrolls since Daggerfall and in all of them, you could always clean up your rep in a province by staying away from it for a month or two. he, he

I guess I'll go do some of the main quest and maybe clean up some settlements for a while then. If that doesn't fix the problem, oh well ... there's always one of the other factions if I can't progress with the Minutemen. None of the others appeals to me, though.

I tried sleeping for over a month in the makeshift bunker in Sanctuary, and it did not do anything. Does it have to be exactly a month, or is there a exact location to wait? If it has to be exactly a in-game month, then can you show me the exact command to skip that part of the mission OR pick up the artillery with commands.

I'm having a similar problem in which I can't build the artillery. It's not in the Special tab in the settlement menu. I've run every menu fix tape I have, everything else works, just not the artillery. I called one in with placeatme, and it places, looks right, but I can't assign anyone to it.

I have Sim Settlements, WATM, SKE, and a handful of other settlement-altering mods, but apparently I'm the first person to have this problem, so I can't find any patches. I've also exhausted the obvious console options to try to force it to work, so I've got nothing.

Update:

I installed the Fatman Artillery mod (https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/16031) and that I can build and operate no problem, but the standard one is still a no-show.
