miscdude
So I realize that in the way of glitches and issues that people have with Oblivion this is decidedly minor, however after getting back into the game and looking at it for a few days it gets really bothersome to see textures at the low resolution that they are at, even though I've changed my settings to Ultra High in the launcher, and adjusted the texture setting available via the darNified UI (At least I think thats the one that does it) from low to high in the game itself. I can restart as many times as I want, but nothing changes it. I've tried adjusting the settings other than texture resolution, such as antialiasing, hdr, bloom, etc. as well as playing with the settings in my Catalyst Control Center, all to no avail. I'm starting to wonder if it's some incompatibility that Oblivion has with my graphics card (HIS 4670), but I'm not entirely sure and have no real way of testing it, nor do I believe this is the problem seeing as I have no problems with New Vegas and the age of Oblivion far outweighs the age of my card. I looked around here and on google for a couple of days and have been unable to find a solution or similar problem. Here are a couple of examples. The faces are the most notable as far as texture issues go by far. While these screenshots were taken after I had mods installed, the texture issue occurred long before, and also through several reinstalls. HeyYou
Are you by any chance using Self Shadows? If you are, turn 'em off.
GetOutOfBox
Are you by any chance using Self Shadows? If you are, turn 'em off. He's not, at least in the screenshots. The issue is that he, like most sane people, thinks that the vanilla face textures look like something out of a medical textbook of exotic skin diseases. The solution is this mod (or one of the many others): New Face Textures
miscdude
Well, while that did seem to make some improvements to the textures themselves, the resolution problem is constant. The thing that bothers me is the stretched looking pixels and ill-defined edges of things like the lips and the eyebrows. It's all just a lower resolution than it is in example images and screenshots for the game on higher settings.
MichikoUnknownFox
On my machine, with Enayla's face textures installed, I noticed that it doesn't work immediately during chargen. I have to tweak the character face shape a little (or wait a bit without doing anything maybe) and the textures suddenly change into the smoother textures I expected. It may not be the same issue as yours, but it could be related. I'm thinking that maybe one or more mods (or even game settings?) are hindering the better textures from showing up. miscdude
Like I said, the textures were as they are now before I installed a single mod. I've fiddled with the game settings, I've created multiple faces in the chargen across several savegames and not my character nor any of the npcs display a facial texture that seems to be above about 256x256, or some similarly small texture size. I've even reinstalled several times, among switching back and forth with the Nehrim total conversion, and nothing seems to change it. If I adjust my textures to the low resolution, it stays the same. Go to medium, the same. High? The same. I've tried all different quality settings in the options menu in the launcher and lots of the shader settings / in game configurable options via mod implemented menus and nothing seems to cure my dilemma. I have not tried to modify anything in console as far as the face or texture settings go, which is one of the few options I have left. I'm hoping that there is some really simple issue that I'm simply overlooking, but it's looking dim at the moment. EDIT:Problem solved. I've had some strange mystery success. After installing like...50 new mods, I went to play and couldn't load my old save file. No biggie, was only level 8 or so on that play through. Went to make a new character and BAM! Everything is the proper resolution. No weird little stretched pixels, no "I cant tell if that's a wrinkle or a massive perfectly-symmetrical scar," everything just worked. If I ever manage to find out what exactly fixed this, I'll be sure to post about it so as to help anyone else who might have this problem.
