hmm. Weapons that aren't seen every day.

Well here are some unique weapons

Pilum One of the favorite weapons of the Roman legions. The Pilum was thrown at the onset of the battle and unlike regular spears it could not be thrown back. The reason for this is the ingenous design. The Pilum has a small sharp spear head and the upper half of it's shaft is metal. The metal was soft allowing it to bend upon impact. This bend prevanted the enemy from throwing the Pilums back at the roman legions. Furthermore this unique spear easily penatrates shields. As usual it bends making what ever shield it hit unusable.

Now after the battle the Romans would pick up the bent Pilums then with a forge straighten them for the next battle.

Scottish Targe Now if I ever do post anything about swordsmanship you will quickly learn that the shield is not a pure defensive weapon. But can be used offensively. The scotts took this to another level with the Targe. A simple round shield except for one main thing at the center of the shield a nice pointed blade protrudes. Making the shield and easily offensive weapon.

Rondel Dagger Another unique weapon of the Renaissance period. The rondel dagger was specially made for the underhand grip (aka icepick grip). Believe it or not fighting with knives and daggers in the medevial ages/Renaissance was mainly done whith in the underhand stlye.

Stiletto An assasins weapon of the Renaissance period. The Stiletto is a very thin easily hidden dagger. A thrusting weapon that easily penatrates the body and can pierce heart and lung. This is a very deadly weapon. A person can quickly hide the weapon (under a cloak) Draw it, make one deadly thrust and hide it again in one fluid motion.

Roman Pugio This is another specialized dagger. This was used be the romans and the legions. This is a purely stabbing dagger made to pierce mail and other armor of the day. It was ideal for the combat of the roman leagions.

Trident: A unique weapon the never actually saw battle outside the Roman gladitorial events.

Well that or you could say they were thieves. For instance, the Gladius I believe originally was a Spainish sword. The Romans liked it and took it. Not to mention the Peatorians (in many ways the real rulers of the Roman Empire)
