Scribe Haylen after sparing Danse in Blind Betrayal

Damn, I quite liked him too, that's why I didn't kill him. I thought about trying to kill Maxson before he killed Danse.

Sadly I'd imagine doing so would just turn Danse hostile even if you could. He's fierecly loyal to the Brotherhood (Though he'll still open fire on them?) even if Maxon orders his death. So if you did manage to shoot and kill Maxon then you'd probably have to kill Danse afterwards.

In the FO4 Files it seems they planned an option to convince Danse to some trial by combat thing against Elder Maxson, then taking over the Brotherhood. Bethesda probably scrapped it because all the brotherhood missions after blind betrayal would need changes.

I spared Danse, but when I went outside the bunker, he was on his knees with Elder Maxson standing by him. After a short conversation Maxson shot him. Did I do something wrong?

That happened to me when I was too slow to exit the bunker. Took my sweet time piddling around collecting loot from the bunker and when I went outside, didn't even get the opportunity to pass a speech check.

Had to reload and follow Danse out to get the opportunity to pass the speech check.

When I didn't get the speech check, I had saved right before Maxon kills Danse so I reloaded and tried killing Maxon first. Danse didn't turn hostile when I killed Maxon. The BoS NPCs waiting in the vertibird turned hostile and all the BoS quests failed.
