Frustrated with Game

Recommended Posts

I agree with dragonbird. I too am in my (cough) 50's and while I still have good reflexes, I still fumble with the keyboard. But since I work with computers on a daily basis, I have learned to simply get up and walk away for a while. I do get frustrated at times, even with working some of my own projects. TW2 was a 'learning' challenge for me and there was a lot of frustration at first. Now I have advanced from normal to the hard level and am doing pretty good. Plus I don't use any armor and that adds to the challenge. I enjoy this game because of the challenge and you do have to think about what you are going to do, not a hack n' slash like some other 'recent' games.

If a game just gets you frustrated and upset, then it's not for you. I hate to say that, but there you have it. Or, as I said in my previous post...just let it set for a while and try later. Not all games are for everyone, and for me, I can use ME2 as an example. Which is odd as I love sci-fi, but this one did nothing for me and it now sits on the shelf. My moods tell me sometimes what I need to play...lol. When I really need to release some..ummm..tension,(bad day at the office kinda thing) I turn loose with Halo ODST or Reach...heh. I always feel better after that.

I for one can hardly wait for the next in the Witcher series.

We humans are funny critters, eh?

LOL. Me too on ME2 :) I know it's supposed to be a great game, and don't dispute that, but I just couldn't get interested enough to go through the learning curve. I suspect that I just don't personally like sci-fi games.

I also left TW1 on the shelf for about 3 months, after getting slaughtered time and time again during the Prologue. It was only after I went back to it that it finally clicked and I found out what an amazing game it was. That was my first real-time combat game, back in May this year.

I'm going to have to say me three  as far as the age bracket and how I feel about ME2. And I really wanted to like ME2 because I've been a science fiction fan for . . . well, I won't say, but it's been a LONG time. It's gathering dust on my book shelf right now. I figure I'll give it another go sooner or later. DA2 is another one gathering dust, I gave it two playthroughs (because I am nothing if not persistant) and now there it sits and I'm not interested in doing anymore with it, ever.

And TW1 sat on the shelf for, um, like a year and a half because when I realized I was locked into one character (Geralt), I immediately lost interest and went back to playing Oblivion. When I finally decided to try it again this past June, I had to go out and buy the enhanced edition because I couldn't use the original on Win 7  . And I discovered I really liked it now.

My husband LOVED Morrowind and when Oblivion came out, he detested it. He tried playing it, but it was no go.

So I'm a firm believer, too, that if you don't enjoy it, by all means put it away and play something you do enjoy.

LOL..too funny.. I will say how long I have been a sci-fi fan. I saw my first color TV and watched the very first episode of Star Trek on it. I was a boy of 13 then. I remember when the lady turned it on (too warm up) the lights in the house dimmed for a second...seriously. Anyway, I have Morrowind and I did try to play it. The moment in the first act when you get off the boat (think I have that right) and some guard started talking and I saw the 'puppet' mouth going up and down and busted out laughing...I quit there. Now that I know how to use mods, I may install some of them and try it again. I was so disappointed with DA 2, even after I modded the game. I did make my first mod for this game and it was received rather well. I now use DA 2 as a learning tool more then anything, and Oblivion Elder Scrolls for my modelling and texture work. I still Love Oblivion and the wonderful mods you can use with it.

Getting back on track, I am (kinda) playing Witcher 1, but it is hard, I get bored with it. I think, as you said, you are stuck with Geralt, you can't change his clothes, or really do anything with him as far as any customization and that is so important to me. That being said, they got it right in Witcher 2 and made Geralt far more interesting, even though you are stuck with him in this game too. But it is so important for any one to enjoy the game, no matter what it is, and for some, Witcher 2 may be a bit over the top as far as learning the game and actually having to think while playing it. W2 is a visually beautiful game and that is a big plus for me, and Oblivion (Elder Scrolls) is still my favorite for just a visually beautiful game, especially after adding some mods. A bit weak on storyline perhaps and think they had all of three people doing the voice overs...lol.

But I do hope the OP will just give it a break and then try it again. W2 is a mature game and not a hack n' slash and more of a challenge then some others, certainly far more then DA 2.

It's strange. When I first started TW2, one of the things I didn't like about it was the absence of opportunity to go off an grind for XP by killing monsters, something I'd liked about TW1.

Now I'm back with TW1 after playing TW2 for a couple of months, and I'm getting really bored really fast at the thought of having to go off and grind for XP by killing monsters.

(Woah, we're having a really amazing thunderstorm here right now. That last strike just sent three cats running for cover. Shutting down in 3...2...1...)

  • 1 month later...

I almost quit playing the game in chapter 1. For me the fight with dmitri was really hard. I had not really gotten used to using signs that much, and i think if I play again, I would be better.

I used the gamefaq or page on gamefaq that clued me in to when to get what armor and weapon, so i did it as early as possible.

I did not find chapter 2 or 3 very hard. so if you can make it past the kayran (and letho!) then you can coast on to the next few chapters.

wait till ya guys get to the Kayran.....heh :whistling:

*round 18 coming up

I actually found the Kayran quit easy.

I was a bit confused in the beginning of the fight, till the *censored* (shile) started screaming to use the Yrden sign.

From there on it was easy going...

I just kept rolling and was lucky I put the Yrdens in the right spots.

been trying to kill Kayran for 4 or 5 days now.I've watched all the flicks on utube and do exactly as they do.I didnt get the Kayran trap but thats not suppose to make any difference.I get all tentacles cut off,go for a ride, left click my tail off,hit space and still fall off.last time I spent 2 hours just riding and falling off with full bar and space.bridge is still standing and I wasnt anywhere close to dying.oh,and first I downloaded from Steam and it not only sucked,it bit.Bought the enhanced cd,plays much better, but still stuck on Kayran.

I too have put the game up.. for good deleted it from steam and will never ever buy one from said company. My biggest pisser was the amount of files you could save before you had to go in and remove some to make room for more. having to go in every 30 minutes or so to remove save file so I could save got old real fast.. Think people... gawd.. this is an RPG folk are, and will save a lot. What the hell where you thinking when you did it ? no clue don't care really the game Graphics where great but your save thing was a real mind pisser. it surprises me the number of folks I watch that live stream this and they will be playing go to save before a fight and die only to see that there save DID not save so they have to go back even farther to restart.. Big game killer for me right there. and this will be the first and last quote I ever put on these forums going to delete this bookmark also.
