Help with editing .dds files?

I tried three different plugins, one for Gimp 2.0 and two for Photoshop (I'm using CS2 because it's free), but none of them seem to let me open .dds files. Can anyone who knows their way around them help me out?

You need either Nvidia .DDS plugin or Intel Texture Works plugin.

The gimp plugin works just fine. I'd try uninstalling gimp, deleting all the residual folders and then reinstalling both gimp and the plugin.

Also: you have to export as >>> .dds, it won't let you save as a .dds

I tried both the Nvidia and the Intel plugin, neither worked. I haven't tried exporting as a .dds, I was only trying to open a .dds.

Can you be more exact about how it's not working? What exactly is going wrong?

try 'open as'. Also, are you sure you installed the plugin in the correct directory?

@PoliteRaider Yes, that's the one. The dds format is just not appearing in the list of supported file extensions, and trying to open a dds file yields a "file type unsupported" message.

 

@Descivii 'Open as' has the same result. I double-checked, it's installed in the Plugins directory, so if that's not the correct one I don't know what to do.
