Nexus/FO4 site activity, now vs. November/December. Why so dramatic?

Fallout 4 is doing really well compared to XCom 2 on Steam Charts

I too am an analytics/marketing guy and I have been wondering...

1. Are there rules about pixels for analytics / remarketing?

2. I am amazed someone hasn't dreamed up some kind of cross-marketing system so you can choose mods to promote on your own pages, and somehow earn credits for display on other pages in related and "have you tried" sections.

There is very little in the way of structured related content on the site, and mod authors are often the best to determine their place in the world in relation to other mods.

I promise you, those that run the site are being paid. Nothing in life is free, even free stuff. You get the Google Analytics IQ certification? Idk, I go back and forth on it.

This site has nothing to do with giving modders a platform to showcase their mods for free...you know that right? Just like google has nothing to do with providing a search engine for ppl to use for free. That's the honey for the money, dear.

Certification I have always looked on as being 1. Learning, 2. Agency 3. Corporate

I was already looked on as advanced from a user perspective when these things came out, though I am not good enough at javascript for the more advanced stuff like client to serverside implementations. I am good enough to tell the devs their implementation is messed up by looking at the cookies etc.

Related content is important for

1. User retention, additional page views & repeat visits.. though it would also then mean more downloads (which costs $ but that is like a cost of doing business)

2. It can have SEO benefits, especially on a site so vast

Away from here and Beths site you'll find little discussion about Fallout 4 and what there is tends to be negative, the future looks bleak, the game lacks depth and mods that add depth won't be made overnight, by the time quest mods and overhauls hit it may well be too late, there'll be few players left to enjoy them.

That is to be expected. Mods have always been for two audiences really, those that are dedicated to the game, and those that can not afford new games regularly.

I haven't seen much of a slowdown in views for Fallout content on Youtube, I suppose a lot of that is console driven

2. It can have SEO benefits, especially on a site so vast

Thats not a reliable way to gauge the player base, I've watched them and posted here but havent launched FO4 in over two months.

I suspect a lot of players are going back to Skyrim because they prefer the fantasy setting. After FO3 came out a lot of Oblivion players tried it, decided they didn't like it as much as Oblivion and went back to playing/modding Oblivion.

If you look at the number of mods and downloads Oblivion v. FO3 you'll see that there are about 1/3 more downloads for Oblivion and nearly twice as many mods and the site is still at least as active as the FO3 one. It's true that Oblivion is about 2.5 years older than FO3, but the FO3 modding community was never as robust as the Oblivion one.

True, setting and theme make a huge difference.

Very much so, the fan bases aren't as interchangeable as some think. Fallout tends to have its own smaller fan base, one that doesn't appear to be amused with Fallout 4 if posts over an NMA and other Fallout related sites are anything to go by. I'd like to see Obsidian given another spin off, or maybe inXile, they've already proved themselves with Wasteland 2 and they've shown an interest by filing a trademark for "Van Buren".

A Fallout by Obisidan with Fallout 4's mechanics and engine would be awesome. But i hate to break it to you since a good portion of the people in Obsidian have since left the company, and the developer is busy working on their new "Tyranny" ip. inXile had massive lawsuits and bad blood with Bethesda themselves so i guess we're stuck with them for now :/

Obsidian still have the talent to get it done and Sawyer is still there, Urquhart has also spoken about setting one in L.A. As for inXile, both they and Bethesda are businesses, not children in a playground, they won't refuse to make money together because of something that happened in the past. Have you confused inXile with Interplay? because I don't remember any lawsuits and they've worked together in the past.

Brian Fargo is the head at inXile, and while back at Interplay, he was present during the legal battles with Bethesda so I'm saying again, very unlikely he'd work with the company who took his ip and fought battles with him for years.

I've seen an interview J. Sawyer where he's asked about his willingness to work on a Fallout. He says "yes". Doesn't mean it's gonna happen (no matter how badly I want it to happen).

The game mechanics are the only advantage FO4 has

The Fallout 4 engine while still not on par with other modern engines, is still greatly improved in terms of stability and graphics. Throughout my 150 playthrough of the game, I only had one crash. Don't get me wrong there's still some pretty stupid stuff in there ie, the loading times, time it takes to switch to a new gun, aiming down the sights teleporting you all over the place.

Fargo left in 2002, that was long before Interplay and Bethesda had a bust up, since then Bethesda have published one of their games so he has worked with them. And I never said Obsidian are going to make one, I said they had the talent to do so and singled out Sawyer.

@Jim_uk Your avatar is freakin me out now. All I get everytime I look at it now are thousands of flashes of women I have seen that look exactly like that. I can't figure out why I'm getting this reaction but it causes my OS to spike to 100% auto cataloguing these remembered images and it's suprisingly stressful. I've always had an idiot savant ability to count that is always uncontrollable, so I became a masta meditator just to detach from the process, but holy cow, that avatar must have snuck through into virgin territory! I think it may be my use of cats to learn all the cgi software nowadays, idk.

Either way, forgive this interruption, carry on.
