kalnaf
I have always felt frustrated about how that grand battle to save the world consisted of less than 20 people fighting small bunch of daedras. Come on, the heir to the throne is fighting to save the empire, and all those lords and cities send only 2 guardsmen each? That doesn't bloody make sense! I wonder if there is any mod that increases the size of the battle of Bruma. More Imperial Guardsmen, of City Watchmen, of something!
Sergiroth
You mean the Great Gate? I actually liked that battle. It was the first time I actually felt like I was doing something important in the game, especially when I entered the Great Gate. I never enjoyed closing Oblivion Gates, but the Great Gate felt... well... great. The time limit... the Siege Crawler. I even left my custom CM companion ( she's based on the skunk girl in my avatar ) outside it to face that s*it alone, all by myself ( and to not break immersion, like "You stay outside to protect Martin" ). But I DO agree with you. I always considered the idea of opening the Construction Set and adding more soldiers and Daedra. I was expecting something more epic... especially after wandering for Cyrodiil to get the allies. Edited June 4, 2011 by Sergiroth
Skillet98
I'm not 100% certain, but I think it mostly had to do with the game engine not being able to handle more than 15 or so NPCs battling it out at the same time. Which is why, if you look carefully, some of those extra troops on your side don't really do anything anyway. They just stand around waiting for somebody to die, and when they do, one of those lazy NPCs will rush in to take their place. I'm currently downloading some things, so I can't really access youtube at the moment, but I remember seeing a video where a couple giant Ogres entered combat with a horde of civilians. Most of the civilians just stood there doing nothing... until a significant amount of them had already been slain.
MichikoUnknownFox
Yeah sad. At least we can use our imagination and pretend it's a bigger battle than that. I mean, Oblivion is pretty much an abbreviation of everything anyway. The whole of Imperial City can be walked around in only minutes, for example. We have shopping malls bigger than Imperial City. D: But judging by the vanilla timescale, maybe everything is really supposed to be 30x bigger/more, but engine restrictions prevent that. So maybe each city actually sent 2*30 soldiers, the land is actually 30x bigger, and Uriel Septim was actually 87*30 years old (2,610). Or wait, maybe not that last one. But yeah. Ghoulz
I'd probably get 1 FPS with just 20 NPCs :psyduck:
LFact
-snip- and Uriel Septim was actually 87*30 years old (2,610). Or wait, maybe not that last one. But yeah. Anyway, due to performance issue and brain-dead actors(Although there's mass AI tweak for more actors), we can't expect truly large scale battle in this game. runforitkyle
Maybe in Skyrim perhaps.
MichikoUnknownFox
Well I won't care too much in Skyrim lol, even if it's just 1:1 a lot of the time. It's friggen dragons. As long as the combat is different each time, I'll be happy. But yeah I guess epic large® scale battles would be cool too.
David Brasher
I have heard that Fallout 3 can support a battle with 80 participants all at once. Skyrim is said to be built on a similar game platform, so it may be that we will be able to have really huge battles between armies in Skyrim.
