ghost3142
Like the label on the tin says. Imagine the minigun mount on Vertibirds, but available in settlements to be manned by NPCs or the player. 1. Building a manned heavy weapon post using the settlement system, under the defence section. 2. Like a guard post, requires an NPC settler to man and generate defence points. 3. NPC-manned heavy weapons behave like the vanilla ones in the Vertibird and fire upon enemies.4. Player-manned heavy weapons behave like the vanilla ones in the Vertibird.5. If possible, it could expand to other heavy weapons such as gatling lasers, gauss rifles, automatic plasma guns etc.tl:dr: Vertibird minigun mounts, now available on the ground for settlements
MLeonhardt
Never thought of this. Would be awesome.
flipdark95
I think it can be doable. I'm just spitballing here, but you should be able to just find the minigun model for the Vertibird that's used by the player during a flight and then turn that into a object that can be activated by the player or NPCs. minngarm
Can look into it when the GECK is out. Great idea
ghost3142
I figured the base idea with just the minigun sounded straightforward enough. The more ambitious ideas, in order of expected difficulty...1. Gatling laser variant. Vertibird Gatling Laser did something like this for the vertibird mounts, but the model was off for some reason. 2. Gauss and plasma variants. Simply changing the projectile type and muzzle flash would work, but maybe even making new models of weapons using vanilla assets? Use the receiver portion of the minigun but change the front to gauss/plasma barrels, like Any Mod Any Weapon?3. Portability? Admittedly, not practical at all, since all these weapons are already portable anyway. But imagine if its combined with a mod that heavily tweaks recoil for heavy weapons, making firing it out of power armour uncontrollable. 4. Hostile NPC use of mounted weapons in their spawns. Presumably, this would entail actually going to each raider/gunner/BoS camp to specifically add it in, probably to replace turrets? Seems like a lot of work, not to mention taking some usefulness out of the turret hacking perk. 5. Hostile NPC use of PORTABLE mounted weapons. With (almost) no experience in modding, I'd imagine that this would be heavily AI script intensive. I dunno, could be talking out of my ass here. Gadamlu
After trying out the automatic laser musket, I realized two things. 1. its kinda useless at anything but close range, while smoke and flash obscures all vision while ADS2. Its still awesome, and it NEEDs a mounted variant. Just throwing the idea out there, I think it would be great for settlements.
ghost3142
A mounted automatic laser musket could be a low-tech variant of mounted gatling lasers, for raiders and settlers. However, I don't think the minigun animation and the cranking would line up.
PoppaSmirk
I have pondered this idea myself, when seeing my settlers that are assigned to Defensive Positions...go running off... literally out of the bounds of my settlements walls...to chase the sound of gunfire from beyond my settlement gates. I have always believed that settlers "assigned" to a position should freakin STAY there.... unless they have the roaming from defense point to defense point thing going on. But if my Defense Positions are all assigned, then I want the Settlers to STAY there. Having a Mounted Weapon built into a Defense Position could possibly also include some scripting to keep the assigned settler in place? Until his/her shift was over at least or until an enemy was within a short distance (5 meters or so?). A nice heavy weapon mounted .50 caliber gun would be a nice idea. Then to have the available upgrade to a minigun would be great. Then an upgrade to a heavy laser cannon (slow but fires the equivalent of the triple crank power of the laser musket with each shot), and then an upgrade to a Laser Gatling weapon. If I need to call down any heavier firepower than those previous examples, well, I have artillery to handle that. =smirk=
ghost3142
To recap, mounted miniguns, gatling lasers, handcranked automatic laser muskets for NPC and player use in settlements. Maybes: gauss and plasma variants and models. M2HB model. Handcranked lascannons! Bigger maybes: NPC use in raider/gunner/bos camps. Portability. Upgrade system. MLeonhardt
A way this could be implemented is have the mounted guns attached to Guard Posts and Guard Towers, so you can specifically assign a Settler to it, Settlers at other Guard Posts can cycle between them, and unassigned Settlers can utilize them while under attack.
