FrenchieDwemer
I have a seriously shi*ty bug. The game loads, everything seems first normal, great ! BUT. After a bit of time, textures and sometimes meshes begin to disappear. I mean, it turns to a yellow triangle, or to purple/black (textures). This can't be the game not finding textures and meshes for it works before doing this and in the TESC, it doesn't appear to be bugged ! If somebody could help me... this would be greatly appreciated. :ohdear: Oh and, sorry for my english. It isn't my native language, and I dunno if I am always correct. Edited June 5, 2011 by FrenchieDwemer
MotoSxorpio
Where did you get your copy of Oblivion?
FrenchieDwemer
I don't know. Perhaps from my CD ?... EDIT : I forgot to say, that this bug only occurs on mod's stuff. And this always worked well for years with a modded game. Edited June 5, 2011 by FrenchieDwemer
MichikoUnknownFox
Might be related to archive invalidation. Try using OBMM or any other method of updating your archive invalidation file.
FrenchieDwemer
Actually, I already did so several times with OBMM. It seems nothing has been fixed. However I've seen that some people tell that using it too much can be dangerous to the game, including meshe and texture issues. Is that true ? I must admit that I used the archive invalidation from OBMM maybe too many times -and before the bug as well as after. MichikoUnknownFox
Yeah I've also heard that. A lot of people even say you're not supposed to touch it anymore. Frankly I don't really know how it works. I just have OBMM and I've never ever had to touch my archive invalidation file, nor the archive invalidation feature of OBMM. And yeah I have a lot of texture replacers for vanilla and new stuff like new weapons and armor. I haven't had a problem with missing textures unless the file itself was broken to begin with. It's been so many years since manual archive invalidation was such a big deal that I don't even remember it really. D: Notice how newer mods don't even give that instruction anymore? FrenchieDwemer
Well, I've download "Archive Invalidation invalidated". I'll just try and see, now. EDIT : Nothing happened. I feel... terribly jaded. All this time spent in that game, spoilt in one day. Anyway Skyrim is incoming. And I could just re-install my whole game... that would be utterly pissing me off, but well... I don't have many solutions ! MichikoUnknownFox
Try clean reinstalling your game, reinstalling your mods without touching archive invalidation. D: I know a lot of players have this idea of a careful balance of mods and whatnot, but when you get used to it, removing and putting together entire sets of mods isn't as painful as it sounds anymore. I mean, just this week I've completely redone my entire mod structure maybe 3 or 4 times. Sometimes it's to find a faulty mod or some incompatibilities. Sometimes it's just because I decided and I didn't like what certain mods were doing and ended up removing a bunch of mods I don't really like in the process. You kinda learn more and more about it as you go along, so that you know what stuff you're doing wrong eventually, and pretty soon you'll end up being able to install even complicated mods like FCOM and Better Cities.
