So, is there a way to debug mods?

Not really......

You can do the binary search thing though.

Uncheck half your mods. WIll the game load? If no, then the problem is somewhere in there. If yes, then it is in the other half that you have unchecked. Trouble with this method is, a lotta mods have inter-dependencies, so you might inadvertently give yourself a missing master crash...

Have you ran boss on your load order? Been thru the boss log? Do you use wrye bash?

need more info

what Operating system?

what version of the game - Oblivion alone? (ver number). Oblivion Game of the year? other?

Where from - store box, steam download, other?

Where is it installed - default location, custom location?

Do you have any helper programs? OBMM, OBSE, BOSS, Wrye Bash? Others?

Do you have any mods installed? Need a load order listing

How to post an Oblivion Load order list using OBMM

http://wiki.tesnexus.com/index.php/How_to_post_a_load_order_for_Oblivion

Has it ever run on that particular computer? If so what have you changed?

if not, Using the computer you plan to play the game on

Go here to see if your computer can run the game

http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri/

You will find the various game we support

Oblivion listed as 'The Elder Scrolls IV, Oblivion

Fallout3 as Fallout3 PC

Dragon Age listed as Dragon age

Fallout New Vegas as Fallout: New Vegas

Morrowind is not listed, However if you can run Oblivion at all it should run well on your system.

Note: TES V - Skyrim is not listed yet as no one knows what the final requirements will be yet.

It exists two debugger mods

1. MessageLogger - A plugin for OBSE which logs error and warning messages from the game engine to a text file - https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45870/?tab=description

2. ConScribe - Logs all console output to text files for later reviewing. Also adds log functions to log textual output and input. - https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/26510?tab=description

MessageLogger shows some problems, it doesn't fix any bug.

Everything depends from the problem you're having. As a golden rule always check for errors and identical to master objects using TES4Edit. You can easily fix the editor ID's that don't start with a letetr using this software.

To avoid crashes install 1 mod at a time, check if everything goes well etc.
