Vagrant0
Just like in Oblivion, won't be using a horse, so won't miss it. So long as there are still ways to boost movement rate with spells and such (or mods), probably won't ever use a horse unless it's forced on me. Horses in Oblivion were useless not only because they were often slower than the player, and you had to hop off every time to fight, but also because; they died so quickly, were a pain to protect, couldn't climb very well, and always getting lost or running off getting lost (and dying as they jump off a cliff in the middle of the plains). TPA5
Todd stated in an interview that the reason they decided to not do mounted combat is that they found it changed base gameplay too much. I can see where they are coming from in that regard, and to be honest the physics of horse-mounted combat could be rather buggery to implement. For instance, Mount & Blade (A terrific medieval combat "sim") has mounted combat, and it can be aggravating at times to use. In any case, it's not coming our way in Skyrim. A shame? Perhaps. Personally I think it could make combat too easy, as you could simply keep slashing and running until they drop over like a damp sock. I'd sooner have them work on a better combat engine on foot then a mounted engine. Just my opinion though.

They would still be fairly bad by comparison. Even if the control were better... Horses just usually made you worse in exchange for slightly higher movement speed, an aspect which is pretty much not useful when other methods of improving speed exists. Deleted2543153User
It's a shame there's no mounted combat. Maybe horses will be more useful now that speed and athletics have been removed.
Fonger
Yes, but as someone who grew up with horses, it's not easy controlling an animal with a mind of it's own with only your legs. Unless you're like my sisters who are professionals. And unless you've got a horse who cooperates unlike the ones I dealt with. war horses are trained you don't just hop onto any old draft horse and fight

I'm stacking bodies 5 high on my lance like a bandit kebab.
rrr777rrrg
I dont understand what developer are talking about when they say the players would miss things if there was mount combat because I play with deadly reflex 6.0 and I travel on horse back all the time and I still explore dudgeons and caves. Its more convenient to slash a bandit with your sword or shoot arrows as you ride instead of traveling 20 yards, dismount, kill a wolf, mount again, travel 100 feet, dismount, kill bandit, mount again, travel 50 yards, dismount, kill another wolf, mount again, ride 50 feet, dismount, kill bandit, mount, reach destination, dismount, kill perusing wolf and enter town.It also dosent seem to break any balance in Oblivion seeing that the A.I basically has pinpoint accuracy with all their attacks so they dont really have a hard time hitting you back. Even If it was unfair then who would care? Its a single player game. Mounts are supposed to have a advantage and it would be up to the players decision to fight while on horse back. This one of many reasons to why I would never buy a Bethesda game for the Xbox anymore. The games are frustrating to play because of the ridiculous limitations. This, the constant staggering and the lack of weapon variety is what caused me to trade my copy of Oblivion with a cousin after 2 weeks of purchase. The first thing I wanted to do was stock up on arrows and go deer hunting on horse back. Coming from zelda I found Oblivions horses embarrassing but I was still willing to look past that after a while because the animations are really bad so I can understand why it was left out but to leave it out of skyrim seems ridiculous at this day and age. I think the developers did try it out but they probably felt that their implementation would just be inferior to other games so they got rid of it. Todd Howard did state that if they couldnt get horses right they wouldnt include them in skyrim. Riding through open grasslands on horse back while shooting arrows at a hostile dragon while avoiding flames and claws would make one of the most epic fights ever.
