YourStepDad
Like Todd said, it would change the nature of the combat too much, meaning horses could be exploited. I never cared much, though getting of a horse every minute to kill an annoying wolf was a bit annoying.
InuyashaFE
They should have mount combat, but limit it so you can't hit as hard, or aim as well. :/
rrr777rrrg
This one of many reasons to why I would never buy a Bethesda game for the Xbox anymore. The games are frustrating to play because of the ridiculous limitations. This, the constant staggering and the lack of weapon variety is what caused me to trade my copy of Oblivion with a cousin after 2 weeks of purchase. The first thing I wanted to do was stock up on arrows and go deer hunting on horse back. Coming from zelda I found Oblivions horses embarrassing but I was still willing to look past that after a while because the animations are really bad so I can understand why it was left out but to leave it out of skyrim seems ridiculous at this day and age. I think the developers did try it out but they probably felt that their implementation would just be inferior to other games so they got rid of it. Todd Howard did state that if they couldnt get horses right they wouldnt include them in skyrim. Riding through open grasslands on horse back while shooting arrows at a hostile dragon while avoiding flames and claws would make one of the most epic fights ever. i guess you dont play games on the xbox then since oblivion and fallout are some best games that give you a sense of freedom. i never felt limited in these games. also zelda did something that i think would be crappy in TES, lock-ons. in fact any game with mounted combat has lock-ons. also i dont remember using my horse in zelda for combat, just used it to get to point a to b. only game that has good horse combat is red dead then again that game has guns and locks-ons so..... I Play the xbox for everything but TES, Half life and RTS games. But Zeldas lock on Aiming was optional. Also horse archery would have been any worst then archery on foot in Oblivion because there would be no back peddling or the horse could just be stationary when shooting. Also you rarely needed to use horse combat in zelda because most of the game world was empty but it was definitely helpful when you ran into a ghost. Oblivion on the other hand is completely different because it is open world game that has random encounters with bandits and monsters and skyrim will be adding fast moving dragons. If we are to be giving freedom in our single player free roam RPG then it would make sense to allow the player to use their mount for more then just travel. No one is asking for mount and blade style horses mechanics but horses without any combat or spell casting is a very strange limitation to have in a games like these. billyro
Zelda made it too easy to kill, simply Z-target and shoot them. If Bethesda was worried about exploiting horse combat, make your accuracy less when mounted.
Azhur
I do not see why of people are bringing up lock on and auto aim from old Nintendo games and xbox games as if is the only way to make it work. Zelda had first person view mode with manual aim for horse arrows and red dead only had auto aim in regular game modes and that game used guns. Also they were not the only games to have good horse. War band shadow of colossus and even barbie did just fine with mounts. Its already difficult to hit something with a bow and arrow at high speeds so it would require skill anyways and its not like the players will be forced to ride. The funny thing is I remember reading a interview on Oblivion and the developers said they left mount combat out of Oblivion because it ruined the balanced combat system that they worked so hard on.Then Oblivion was released and players were back peddling with bows and fire balls and jumping on rocks. So its all excuses to me. No matter what they do the games A.I will always be exploitable. Leaving out something so practical as shooting a bow or swinging a axe when on a mount is just out of place and it makes traveling an annoying experience for players who want to ride. Now the horses will have better animations and handling but they still will be a annoyance unless they can carry items. I really like horses in adventure games and was really hoping that they would have every problem they had in Oblivion. Im just going to wait until mods start coming out until I start playing. erloriel
I thought that the implementation of horse-combat in Mount and Blade was done well, but I do think that the horses would only be useful in the steppes and not so much in the forrest, where you just one tree away from getting a mouth full of wood. So while horse combat would have enhanced the experience a bit, I don't think that Skyrim will suffer from the lack of it. While it is a thing of style, I personally prefer to just walk around on foot and explore the world at a slower pace.
hadoumastery
I honestly believe this is FAIL for bethesda not to put in horse combat. It is just ridiculous not to have it when it is common sense that it should be there, I would say, either remove horses from the game (as there were none in dragon age) or make combat for it. And one person said blacksmithing for horseshoes, on that topic: I would love for bethesda to put some crafting into the game, such as allowing your character to forge weapons or armor with the armorer skill or something, or to be able to tailor your own clothing or something, just a thought, but it would be cool. runforitkyle
I don't think dragon age is an appropriate comparison as dragon age does not have huge wide open spaces.
aaroncox
i will be extremely disappointed if mounted combat is not included in the game. I mean as much as i love riding around on horses, and keeping it as companions while I'm lost in the wilderness all alone. Getting down every time a rabbit comes or wolf is just stupid. Oblivion came out 5 years ago. This is just pathetic that Bethesda hasn't got pasted this yet. If they are afraid it will harm the combat experience like other fine people in here earlier said make it harder to shoot. Make it rocky when shooting a bow and arrow or make it hard for the horse to slow down when you swing your sword making it hard to time your hits. There are ways around this and i'm not a rocket scientist. I expect more from the company i admire to work with in the future.
billyro
If there is no mounted combat, I think that it would be a good idea to jump off your horse in combat. I mean, actually JUMP off, not slowly slide off. It would only take a second to get into the battle.
