Just because the PC is pre-assembled does no dictate its quality. I've seen and repaired a handful of computers and some of the premade ones were absolutely atrocious. All pretty on the outside, crap on the inside.

Most manufacturers cheap out on production costs to increase their profitability by using lower quality components, from capacitors, voltage regulators all the way to the power supply and ram the choose. Most companies like Dell/Alienware put in place ridiculous price markups that sometimes inflate the price to over 20% of what the PC is actually worth on the market. Plus don't even get me started on the Warranty and customer service, it's like they hired a bunch of teens from geeksquad to work in customer support.

I'm not saying all corporate system manufacturers are bad, but some of the units they sell are so entry level and overpriced it's not even funny.

Alright, i guess it comes down to how much money i make. If i have enough i will gladly take the alieware (yes, just because of the case) over everything else. If i don't, guess i will get the custom built stuff

is a case really worth 1000+ to you. plus the alienware you linked wasnt impressive for the money in fact it was disappointing. if you want a prebuilt

will all build you a PC much better then the alienware plus you can get aftermarket graphics cards instead of lame reference(stock) cards.

ok, i found out im not going to be making much money this summer.... guess that means no Alienware.... (stupid economy -_- )

Edit: i've been persuaded, gonna use the links above. Better PC, cheaper... but unknown quality (even when paying the extra stuff for the alleged "safety" stuff from IbuyPower and CyberPower)

Buying Alienware is like buying a Mercedes over a Lexus just because of the mark.

Seriously dude, not only will you be considered a n00b by most of the gaming community you will be overpaying by 500$. Case? Who cares! You are buying a PC to play PC games not look at your computer.

I'd rather have a computer that works like a beast, but looks bland. I often compare it to tuning cars. No matter how nice your paintjob and accessories are, if you don't have a good engine, it's crap. So, yes, Alienware is way too overpriced for what it is. For 2,9k you would manage to assemble a really, really nice gaming rig yourself. Edited by Yoshh
