What a LAUGHABLE excuse to delay the GECK release for as long as possible. With something as complex as the GECK, the programs will be riddled with bugs, beta or no, and the BEST way to bang it into shape is to give it a PUBLIC release now so as many users as possible can act as bug finders.

Beth is about to make MILLIONS of dollars selling a DLC that would be bettered by mods within days of the GECK release. Anyone who thinks that Zenimax ignores this financial reality is a FOOL. Releasing the GECK early would cost Beth tens of millions of dollars in lost sales of 'horse armour' class DLC.

And don't forget, mods on the console versions of FO4 are highly unlikely, despite Beth's past promises. The 'walled garden' of console apps makes the whole idea of user mods one giant can of worms. When a mod needs the 'permission' of Zenimax, Sony and Microsoft simply to exist, well one may as well say "goodbye" to mods. Everything is offensive to someone- everything potentially infringes the IP of someone- and everything conflicts with the commercial plans of the masters of the walled garden.

Also, it is still the intent of Zenimax to have mods on the consoles, if they go ahead, as PAID apps. Last time Beth tried this, they secretly contacted 'leading' Skyrim modders. This 'beta' idea stinks of the same thing.

PS4 and Xbox One are launching upgrading versions of their systems. Obviously, for mods.

Everyone loves to throw around that with the GECK modders would do mods of so much better quality than the upcoming inexpensive DLC.. I am sorry, while I do believe the community is capable of adding the new functionality, and are quite talented as a whole, I would not assume they would outclass the professionals. And thats if modders were even able to get the creature capturing / fighting, or automatron assembly of ro-bits working as smoothly / properly.

Again, not saying its impossible, at all. The community is amazing. But that doesn't mean this DLC is pointless. One could argue that the community could create a far harbor add-on too, but does that mean they shouldn't do it..?

The reality is that we modders could likely throw together a system that would work well enough that it could cut into Bethesda's bottom line for those DLCs. Bethesda is trying to get every dollar it can out of console players and PC gamers. The wait for the geck is inexcusable. the longest it previously took for a release was 2 months and that was for skyrim. We're getting ready to push into 6 months.

It's not inexcusable. They are not at all required to even make the tools to help us mod the game, in fact everyone on this site should be extremely grateful at the support they've shown over the years. Most Devs don't even bother to make their games compatible with mods. Don't act so entitled to it.

And they ARE a business, a little detail too many people like to forget. Working on material that they plan to sell before spending money and resources on something they plan on releasing for free takes priority.
