minngarm
Nuclear reactors (which are in EVERYTHING in this universe, even in Radios) would give off radiation for decades, and the big ones can leak radiation for hundreds of years, look at the real life Chernobyl for example. The radiation from bombs would not last very long (relatively speaking), and certainly not for 200 years, so some of you are correct in that regard. Its the radiation from all of these reactors that really screws the world of Fallout in terms of recovery.Nuclear reactors are only in a select few things, most things have fusion cells, aka batteries. Fusion cells are tiny nuclear reactors. Hence the presence of the word "fusion." they are used in the same ways that the real world uses batteries. They would not run out of charge if they were actual reactors. On top of this there would be no need for power lines if every home had fusion reactors in them. But all nuclear materials still decay, which is why the term "half-life" exists. This is real physics, not fallout science. So yes nuclear cells can run out, or maybe they are simply decaying so much that they stop being useful enough to power a gun or whatever.
ddavies10693
None of us know the exact way the fusion cells work, but it's stated all throughout the lore that nuclear reactors (big or tiny) were used in nearly everything by the time the War happened. Which is why the world (particularly plants) had so much trouble recovering from the war once all of this nuclear material was either damaged by other nuclear explosions, or just left in general disrepair. This goes back to the original point of why the world is still FUBAR 200 years after the war.

minngarm
Man you know someone isn't a nerd when they actually think that nuclear runs forever.Assuming that was directed at me, it indicates you have some reading comprehension problems. After all I don't see anyone in this thread talking about it running forever.
alewolf
Folks got off topic fast... I agree with the post. Even with simple hand tools our ancestors had nicer digs. Just simply cleaning the inside... I hate decorating around the damn bloat fly corpse. How hard is it to shovel the grass off the sidewalk, pull some weeds or clean your damn clothes. For one it a leakage not a bomb, third is that bomb donated when it fell into ground and may have triggered cars. We have no real life example of anything like it to compare.
