Bisaflor
I've noticed in this game in particular that enemies will "lay down suppressive fire" in your general direction even though they don't actually know where you are. They'll shoot from cover at the direction the shot came from and continue shooting in that direction if you move to another spot. That's how I know they don't actually know where you are, but are just returning fire. This may be what the OP is encountering. I never noticed this in previous Fallout games, and in Skyrim the enemy will run to that location even if you're not there anymore. Heck in Skyrim you can just fire an arrow at a location that you want everyone to run to and they'll go to where the arrow made impact. I kinda wish enemies tracked impact in this game too. The problem is they do this regardless if you have a silencer on or not. Which negates the purpose of the silencer. just nope like he said they just start blind fire at your position but not on youyou are still undetected and you can use the sneak damage bonus and change your position with a non silenced weapon they detect you much much faster i used a double shot laser rifle oncei was able to deal 1 shot after that they instantly detected meno sneak damage bonus, nothing from that point Edited April 20, 2016 by Bisaflor
snapper69
I read this thread with interest and watched the videos too. Here in the UK, I have as much chance of getting hold of a weapon as I do of being abducted by aliens, so I find it interesting. However, we are playing a game, where I have been frozen for 200 years while the world more or less destroyed itself by means of a nuclear holocaust. Then, when I woke up, I found myself in a world of monsters and an alien plus soldiers in power armour. Therefore I think that if I want a .50 calibre sniper rifle with a silencer that makes it silent, is that really too much to ask?

No not at all, I'm just stating that I don't think the game is meant to work that way, and that it wouldn't work that way in real life either. The reality of this game is, if you get all the sneak perks, you can practically walk around in power armor and not get seen, it happens to me all the time. At least in TES games you get penalized depending on the armor you wear. I think in Fallout the weight of your clothing has an impact on it but besides being told that I've never seen any numbers that tell you how bad that penalty is. All I know is with all the sneak perks I can sneak right up to almost anything and punch it in the back of the head, but when it comes to firing weapons you aren't invisible and at the very very least they're going to shoot and run in the direction that the shot came from, regardless of knowing where you really are. And if you have an interest in guns, watch more of that You Tube channel. That guy is very informative about guns, gives easy to understand info about them and does it pretty much unbiased though he will tell you all about what he prefers. He's like listening to your grandfather telling you a story.

Well, if you're any good with FO4Edit, nothing is too much too ask, really. If you want to change the low noise value to 0, go for it :p
snapper69
I can build a computer, I can (mostly) use a computer, I can even play games ( I would like to think, reasonably well, enough to have fun anyway) but coding/programming, makes my head explode. That's why I'm glad that there are brilliant coders around on here, doing something that I can't do, mods. That said, I've never tried using FO4Edit, so who knows, maybe I'll give it a shot. So, I just watched a YouTube video on how to make a simple mod, apart from the fact that he may as well have been speaking Chinese, it didn't look too bad, perhaps I'll have a go. Most of the time, it's just a matter of just reading through a list of stuff and guessing based on the words and context of them what does what and changing a value. Sometimes, what does what is actually labeled and that helps a lot, but it's still not always straight forward. I haven't done any testing, but I think the value you need to edit is in the suppressor mods. For example:In the Object Modification (OMOD) category, mod_10mm_Muzzle_Suppressor has a property that may be what you need to change for 10mm pistols and it's highly likely that all suppressor mods share the same property. What is it you need to change the property to? IDK. It's a hex value. DATAPropertiesPropertyValue Type EnumFunction Type SetWeapon Propery SoundLevelValue 1 - Enum 02 00 00 00Value 2 - Enum 00 00 00 00Step 0.0 You could always try changing 02 00 00 00 to 01 00 00 00 or 00 00 00 00. 03 00 00 00 might also work, but it might not. kevin939
I think it depends on the enemy, I'm lvl 115 with sneak maxed and as someone stated I can shoot a raider or gunner directly behind them and they won't see me, but I can snipe a ghoul from nearly a 1000 yards and they run straight to me. Also I sniped a Rad Scorpion on the ground from the patio roof of a 6 story building, it burrowed underground and popped out right behind me on the roof lol. T00LK1D
Lets get something clear, there is NO SUCH THING as a "silencer". You cannot make a gun, especially a rifle, silent. Forget what movies have told you, it doesn't happen, especially when you go up in caliber and velocity. Indeed, it's physically impossible to remove any and all noise from a gun. But in terms of sound suppression/silencing, the russians would like to present a rebuttal, sir. VSS "Vintorez" / AS "Val" / VSK-94: Categorized as sniper rifles, chambered in 9×39mm, integrated silencer - No audible noise in open areas within its intended engagement range (100-600m).VSSK "Vykhlop": Special purpose, large caliber sniper rifle, chambered in 12.7x55mm (~.50 cal), subsonic ammunition, integrated silencer - No audible noise in open areas within its intended engagement range (300-1500m). Sure, you can't fire a suppressed gun next to someone without them noticing, even a BB gun makes a whole lot of noise. Using suppressed weapons in their intended areas of specialization though, renders them virtually silent. It's all a matter of how you use what you are given.
