wood elf shortsword bonus mod

basically i was inquiring about a mod that gave bosmer folk a bonus for wielding a shortsword as opposed to longwswords. i just thought it was lame that shortswords generally seem to be a "hold me over" until i could find the longsword that the aforementioned was made of, and then generally the longsword i was wielding before did the same amount of damage as the shortsword. i really like shortswords and the idea of them, so i thought it would be cool if wood elves could get a bonus with a back story like " because of their small stature, wood elves have adapted and even grown accostomed to the use of a shortsword over longswords", or something like that.

What do you guys think?

I doubt you can do it with the race, since Oblivion's painfully bad game design puts all blades in one skill. In Morrowind, it would be easy to give a racial bonus to the skill, but this isn't possible in Oblivion. What you could try is putting a script on every shortsword that does "if race = bosmer, damage + 10%" (or any other effect you feel like giving). It wouldn't be efficient, but it would do the job.

You obviously haven't discovered RealSwords, the author of those mods has them set up so if your using "RealSwords Orc" and using a Orc, use one of the swords from the Orc compliation and you get a bonus out of it. Hope this made sense, english is my second language sorry.

ive seen that mod the only problem is that i want it to work for ALL shortswords, not just ones created by them modder. thanks for the input though :(

That's why you'd have to mod every short sword in the game. And it's also the reason it's so inefficient... not only will it involve a ton of work to edit every short sword in the game, but it'll probably cause conflicts with other mods.

Another equally time-consuming idea which may or may not work would be to see if you could put a script on the character that essentially says "if item equipped = {list of every short sword in the game} and race = bosmer, damage +10%".

Look up "JOG's Stealth overhual." It makes the sneak damage multiplyer based upon your sneak skill, AND the waepons reach. So if you are lvl 100 sneak a dagger does 15x damage where a shortsword does 10x perhaps. This does it to all races, but that would'nt make a difference since there are so few other characters in the game that use sneak attacks. Also, this would only change your SNEAK, not normal damage. Combine it with RealSwords Bosmer pack and you should be good to go (believe me, onces you've seen these ingame you won't go back to vanilla weapons).

It's not nearly as hard as people make it sound. Just have a script detect individually if any short sword is being used (player.getequipped xxxxxxxx). If that returns true, add an ability to the player which adds to damage based on the level of the player. If it returns false, remove the ability, reverting the stat change, if the ability was added previously. The hard part is really just getting all the weapon IDs within conditionals in a way where it isn't too resource dependant. It may not work with weapons added by other mods, but atleast it doesn't change anything about existing weapons. Short of that, not much else you can really do.

On a side note though, shortswords are better than longswords since they have a faster attack speed which makes up for their lower damage. Naturally, if you're just resorting to hit and run tactics, or even hit and block, you should probably go with a nord or something so that you can take advantage of their longer reach. If you're Bosmer, you should really be running in as close as you can, hitting as often as you can, preferrably with a weapon that's enchanted. Faster attack speed meand more hits, more effects, and can block sooner between hits. Learn to use weapons how they actually should.
