MarickDB
So I built a new system in December (Specs attached). It works well on so many things but I have been having an issue when I play skyrim and fallout4 where after playing perfectly for 1-2 hours it will stutter to the point of being unplayable. The only way to resolve the issue at that point is to restart the entire computer. I have completed removed the Nvidia drivers with the clean removal tool and reinstalled the latest drivers, I have adjusted Vsyncs to the best of my ability, I even updated my xbox one controller from tips from another post hoping for a resolution. I originally thought I might be having issues with the dx9 limitations, but fallout4 is having the same problems. I also have some of the same with The Division. I can play GTAV all day long with no issues. I am really at a loss here. PC Specs:Intel Core i5-6600KMaximus VIII HeroNvidia 980 TiKraken x61G. YeiZoneX
Hi. The issue you're having is not with your GPU, but with your Virtual Memory. Heavy stutter is caused when applications offload all its dynamic contents (this is all the uncompressed data that is being manipulated by the app in your RAM) directly into the Hard Drive/SSD. You should consider enabling Virtual Memory BOTH in your Hard Drive and your SSD. If it doesn't work, then completely disable Virtual Memory, since you have 32 GB RAM (notice that some games might randomly misbehave.).
JimboUK
When it starts to stutter try opening the console and entering pcb, this cleared the cobwebs out with earlier titles like NV, FO3 and Oblivion, it probably does with the newer ones. Fatalmasterpiece
Is your PC overheating? What is your cooling configuration like, placement of your tower etc? I see you have liquid cooling on your CPU but your GPU and HDs could still be getting hot.
obobski
Is your PC overheating? What is your cooling configuration like, placement of your tower etc? I see you have liquid cooling on your CPU but your GPU and HDs could still be getting hot. This is what I thought of initially as well - if its consistently running into stutter after a specific period of time that makes me think it may be thermal throttling. What are temps like on your CPU, GPU, internal case ambient, etc? PSU stability is also a question.
MarickDB
CPU is liquid cooled with a kraken x61 and never rises above ~50C under stress testing. Since my lst posting I have changed out my 980Ti for a 1080 FE which is cooled by reference cooler and air flow. GPU never exceeds 72C during testing and gameplay and the case temp sits between 68-70C during heavy use. (I have an in-room AC unit and have some of the cool air from it channeled to my intake fans. PSU is EVGA 750W Gold+. I have my GPU clocked up to 120% power limit, and my CPU is OC'd to 4.2 Ghz with 1.285v (Before anybody asks, I have run everything at base clock with the same issues, so it is not an OC conflict. Royhr
Curious? When the stuttering starts happening if you save, then quit the game and immediately restart using that same saved game does the stuttering stop or is it prevalent right away again? If not then it might, and I say might, rule out any hardware issues. I was having a stuttering issue for awhile earlier on and whenever I saved, quit and restarted it would stop for quite awhile. Granted it was a pain in the butt to have to do that whenever it occurred but it drove me crazy to the point I just had to do it. Plus the game sometimes was just not playable. But after the 1.5 update I have not seen any stuttering whatsoever. So I figured the update possibly addressed whatever was causing it for me.
