If you are using chrome you may see a grey shield on the right side of the search/url field/box when u are using https in the forums.

...it also makes whatever information you're sending (say, CC info) unreadable to everyone except for the server you are sending the information to. This protects it from hackers and identity thieves. And NPCs.

done properly, it encrypts all web traffic to/from the site. that means no-one watching your connection should be able to tell what you're up/down-loading or looking at on that site.

Yeah it's due to having mixed SSL and non-SSL content on the page. The specific error I see in the network stack is:

'http://www.youtube.com/embed/0SSnacWFyd8'. This request has been blocked; the content must be served over HTTPS.
