finally got the game today for my PC, and got as far as concord. Was wanting to download a couple mods through Nexus but it is telling me I have no Fallout4.ini file. Have looked in my Doc/My Games?fallout4 folder but the only thing in there is a Fallout4 file and another Fallout4.Prefs file and of course my save folder. wondering whats wrong?

NMM is complaining you have no Fallout4.ini? The solution to that is that NMM is actually expecting Fallout4Custom.ini, to make it happy all you need to do is create an empty file named Fallout4Custom.ini and save it in that folder. Since you need to add a couple of ini lines, that's the one to add them to anyway. See the section 'How To Enable Fallout 4 Mods' in the following link.

ok followed what was said here. Here is whats was done. Checked my

Doc/My games/Fallout4 folder and have

Fallout4

Fallout4Custom.ini (with)

[Display]
iLocation X=0
iLocation Y=0
[Archive]
bInvalidateOlderFiles=1
sResourceDataDirsFinal=
Fallout4Prefs (with)
[Launcher]
bEnableFileSelection=1
uLastAspectRatio=1
then went into my
C:/users/my name/appdata/local/fallout4 folder and checked to see if the
plugins txt was read only and it was not, but nexus mod manager is still telling me I have no ini file in my doc fallout folder and nothing is loading in nexus mod manager

Make sure you have at least launched the game with Fallout4launcher.exe once as it auto generates your .ini files if they do not exist.

Do you have file extensions visible in windows? That unknown "Fallout4" file should be "Fallout4.ini" but you probably do not have file extensions visible so you are just seeing the name of the file and not the ".ini" part since that is a file extension. Open that "Fallout4" file with Notepad and it should have a list of configuration settings.

Go to control panel, folder options,view, uncheck hide extention for known file types. Make sure you have show hidden files also checked.

Finally, you can created your own plugins.txt file. Just right click in the C:/users/my name/appdata/local/fallout4 folder, click new > Text Document. It will open a new notepad document which you can write your load order in:

Add an asterisk before all non-Bethesda plugins. Your plugins.txt list should look something like:

Fallout4.esm
DLCRobots.esm
*Console-enable.esp
*Coolmod.esp

Save the file.

thanks again all for your help and answers. But nexus mod manager still does work for me on fallout 4. And those mods on the homepage site? Do you need to download the beta for them to work? Because I just bought the game downloaded it from steam and started playing, but see no Mods icon in the start screen.

Heya folks, i have the same problem with NMM not recognising my Fallout4.ini or Fallout4Custom.ini files. I have the files, both in the my games fallout4 folder and the fallout4 folder via steamapps.

Everything worked nice and dandy yesterday, so it must be related to the new update(fallout4 or NMM?). tried using the version of NMM supplied by the annoucement post, but no dice.

I would verify and validate with what earlier posters replied.

Please make sure you have the extensions displaying as you most likely have a text file labelled as Fallout4Custom.ini.txt instead of a file labelled as Fallout4Custom.ini

To show all extensions perform this:

1. Launch Windows/File Explorer

2. From the File drop down select "Change Folder and Search Options"

3. Click on the View tab

4. Uncheck the option for "Hide Extensions for known file types"

5. Click Apply.

6. Click OK.

Navigate then to your Fallout My Games folder and verify the extension is correct, it should NOT contain a .txt

Cheers!
