hoofhearted4
so my friend got a 3DS recently and hes lovin it. im thinking about buying one as well. it would be useful at college when i have a a couple hours between classes and i dont wanna drive home (i commute) although i dont think im going to get a 3DS, im thinking about getting just a regular DS because its something like $100 cheaper. im just curious if anyone had either of these (or better yet has both) and can tell me if its worth it, and if its worth it to get the 3DS. i personally prolly wont have the 3D on, but i would hate to get a DS and find out that all the new games are for the 3DS and they stop making regular DS games (although there are plenty to keep me occupied already) ill end up trading my PSP and the few games i have for it in so that should help on costs (i hated the PSP), but ya. any opinions or comments? also if i do get one, any games you guys recommend? Vindekarr
A 3DS would actualy be your best bet: the DS has been around since about '06 and has gone through a lot of hardware revisions since: the 3DS not only has a glasses-free 3D monitor but it's also got a little bit more power, and a better control layout, abliet a slightly crowded one. That said, don't buy it if you're looking for A-Grade titles, I've passed Ninty games over since the SNES because there simply arent any proper hardcore ninty games that aren't better on my far more powerful, far easier to use 360 180gb. For the most part, it caters almost exclusively to a child market, with the majority of games being extremely simplistic, and slated for an under 15 audience. If you want anything remotely dark or serious, just get an Ipad or some other "hardcore" portable, or better still, an amped up laptop.
ub3rman123
Are 3DS games able to handle playing DS games, not to mention the other various Gameboy stuff?
hoofhearted4
i know 3DS can play regular DS games. and that kinda sucks to hear about the 3DS being the best option, they are like $250 bucks. if thats the case i think im all set. but we will see how much i can get for my PSP and games, but even then i was expecting MAYBE $100 which just isnt enough to make a 3DS worth it. and im by no means looking for hardcore games. honestly, games like Pokemon or Kingdom Hearts (nvr tried it but heard good things) or Mario, are good enough for me. help pass the time between classes at school or if im chillin with my friend or something since he has one too. idk, ill look into it i guess but im not at all enthused about spending $250 + games. hoofhearted4
not excited about PSVita in the least, what so ever, not even a tiny bit. the PSP was the BIGGEST waste of money ive ever done. i will not get a PSVita unless the price drops to near $100 then MAYBE ill consider it, IF any games interest me (and they too are cheap) id much rather have a Nintendo (3)DS. but even then im not convinced yet.... Thor.
You got a have higher expectations then that, give it a chance. Its possibly going to be ps3 backwards compatible lol with ps store games. Its like saying the wii was a bunch of shovel ware and just a overpriced gamecube. So the wii u is going to such
hoofhearted4
i dont like the Wii either, and as such have no interest in the Wii U. honestly im not into hand held games. especially PSP games. they try to be full blown console games and so they look pretty and usually have good mechanics and a lot going on but the you realize your on a hand held and that the game cant keep up with its overeager intentions. Nintendo handheld games are different. they know they are on a handheld and are designed around such. they dont try to be console games, they try to be handheld games and it makes them enjoyable instead of lame like PSP games. as i said the Vita will grab my attention years later when its cheaper, like the PSP did. after there are 5 versions of it to fix the bugs. TKHawke
I own both the DSlite (small upgrade from reg. DS) and the 3DS. While the DS lites are smaller and can play all normal DS titles plus gameboy advance games, you could deffinately play more games with it. Since the DSi came out, the ability to play GBA games was taken out and as such the 3DS doesn't support that feature. However since the DSi, access to online play over Wifi is do able which brings up 3DS if you're looking into online play. The 3DS will play of course play the 3DS titles as well ass the original DS games. Game titles are also something to look into. Nintendo is most likely going to be putting out more for the 3DS than regular DS games and also is remaking some classics and adding sequels to previous titles. Ocarina of Time 3D was released and was a nice remake of the N64 classic. Star Fox 3D, Super Paper Mario 3D, Luigi's Mansion 2 and Super Mario 3D are all titles already announced for the 3DS. On top of that the 3DS also has a shop app on it where you can browse around and purchase old game titles such as Link's Awakening and install them onto your handheld device to play whenever you want. You can also get some free trailers from E3 of games that were announced and other little entertainment apps plus a web browser. Overall the 3DS deffinately has the most features and I personally love it compared to my DS lite. However I keep it around to play my GBA games and since an AR hasn't been released for it yet, I use the DS lite when I want to cheat my old DS games. A lot of my favourite titles are being redone or continued on the 3DS so even if I didn't own one, I'd buy it eventually. You could get one of the older DS models to suit your needs now and maybe look into getting a used 3DS when prices drop down. Resident Evil has also made it's way onto the 3DS if you're looking into a shooter. As far as hardcore gaming goes, Resident Evil Mercenaries 3D was the closest I got with a game on the 3DS. hoofhearted4
yea no GBA games here so i dont have to worry about that. i have a couple of old Gameboy games, but have a Gameboy SP if i ever needed to go back (which i dont really) im still undecided. it looks like if i wanted to buy one, itd have to b a 3DS, simply because thats where all the new games will be heading. still unsure if i wanna buy one or not, but we will see. my friend is coming over tomorrow, and if i buy one, it will be tomorrow. ill lyk :P
