Adobe auto-download

Recommended Posts

This is something that's been happening to me recently (twice in the past two days), so I figure I'll make a make a post about it to warn and inform the masses.

I am 100% big boy McCertain that the Nexus site is opening the "Download Adobe flash player" in another tab automatically. The first time occurred yesterday while browsing mods. The second popped up less than an hour while I was browsing the forums, trying to fix FO4.

As far as I can tell it is just a flash player, but having something come up that automatically downloads things into your PC is less than okay. If anything changes or I find out what's redirecting me (I may have panicked and closed the download and everything else on the computer last time it happened) I'll do a little update here.

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. Feedback seemed like a decent place to post this.

The exact same thing just happened to me, except the page itself redirected to the download page. I had my adblock turned off at the time, but fortunately Chrome blocked the download for me. This is not cool coming from a website that I trust.

To the user above, you should definitely do everything you can to remove that download from your computer. Both Chrome and Windows Defender identified it as a trojan, and the download definitely did not come from adobe.com.

Is it a trojan? If that's the case that is super uncouth. I rapidly closed the tab whenever it popped up and cancelled the download (it involved some screaming too), so I only got a glimpse of the webpage, but it looked identical to the download page on Adobe's site.

I guess it was a good move to run a million different scans through my stuff to check for any abnormalities.

It'll be an ad doing it and the ads come from a third party and are regional, a screenshot of the page showing the ads when you were redirected would help find the culprit.

Same thing happened to me a few minutes ago and I came directly here to report it. One of my Nexusmods.com/... tabs automatically redirected to a completely different domain and downloaded "Flash Player.exe" without any notice. This had happened to me once before but this time I wasn't even touching the mouse or keyboard when it happened so I know for sure it wasn't an accidental click on a phishing ad or something. It was 100% without my consent or input and clearly one of the ads that cycle through in your banners.

The domain name that I was redirected to and automatically downloaded the file was named "siipuneedledoctor.com". It took the guise of an Adobe Flash Player site and seemed fairly legitimate (read: dangerous).

I've been using Nexus without my ad blocker running, out of pure respect, but it seems I'll be turning that back on for now.

I've also experienced the fake flash download. One of the ads in the cycle will redirect the user away from nexus and start a download of a fake adobe installer. It does not require any interaction by the user to begin downloading (Chrome blocked the download, but I don't believe it will auto-install after downloading).

I'm not sure which is causing the redirect, but the url it redirect me to is "eeshealphafm.org" (I have the full url path if it is helpful to the site admins).
