Where will the next Fallout be?

I really like the Canada idea, and not just because I'm a hoser myself. Would be an interesting setting and the annexation thing could set up some nice storylines. Long forgotten pockets of revolutionaries, festering bitterness, maybe even The Great Ones - a King-like faction that worships the memory of Wayne Gretzky

As much as it pains me to say it :P , Toronto would be the most obvious big city choice but Montreal and Vancouver might be cool too. Vancouver would be pretty cool scenery wise with oceans and mountains both really close.

I like the Vancouver idea. great locale. Abosuletely against the NYC idea. Seriously, that whole city is probably a crater. I don't know if they've ever mentioned it but if I was nuking america, NYC would be pretty close to the top of my list.

The issue with that is DC would be number one.

DC is clearly fine but in ruins.

Personally, I would like the next one will take place in the midwest. I would like to see it set a couple of years after ceasars death with the legion has splintered into a bunch of warring factions.

Frankly, it isn't a matter of where the next Fallout game will be for me, but rather, when. I'd like to see this game in the distant future where civilization isn't just starting to rebuild. I'd like to see it actually being built around your player. I mean, the main battle would be between those who want and enforce law against those who live without law, where law is trying to civilize the lawless places and people.

Excuse me as I bounce kind of randomly between the game world, the business world and the real world...

There have been a couple of mentions of 'Ronto in the game so far, so that is a distinct possibility. I'd rather see it as a later DLC though. At the same time, a bunch of the preview vids of Skyrim (which is using the engine I assume the next FO will use) has a ton of forested area, which makes me think a pacific northwest locale might work well. (Aside from being quicker to code, since a lot of the grunt work is already done.) Seattle has (or rather had) Boeing, so it would likely be mostly a smoking ruin, but the FO series specializes in that. Probably fun to explore a bit though. Imagine the irony of poking through the shell of the old Bethesda Softworks HQ. Up the coast is Whidbey Island Naval Station, which could have a ton of cool places/bunkers to explore and tech to find. Vancouver has amazing scenery - how better to show off what the creation engine can do? Besides, it is a nuke free zone, so it might have a chance of coming out of the war somewhat intact. Also, given the geography, there is room for an "NCR expanding north" storyline - which would fit the lore about the NCR tending to overreach. It would also fit with the whole thing Seattle has going about "Californians coming up here" in today's world - a bit of the same, lore friendly tounge-in-cheek humor. Also, Bethesda is based in the PNW, so area research would be cheaper and faster. In any case, I'd very much like to see a MUCH larger, more geographically expansive game. The maze-like feel of DC got me annoyed most of the time. I don't mind some of it, but not a whole game worth, especially if they use a new engine that is supposed to do open spaces better.

"The Great Ones" (AWESOME idea, BTW; fits perfectly with the kind of goofy lore of the whole FO series) could definitely have a strong presence anywhere in Canada...

Couldn't a case be made for the prime target of the Chinese attack being One Microsoft Way, Redmond, Washington rather than DC. Given this scenario, can you imagine what may have evolved in the palace-like cave on Bainbridge Island? The possibilities could make any code writers quiver.

Here is a idea.

The game takes place in a somewhat intact city in Canada. The game can take place a while after New Vegas.

The storyline could be the NCR trying to expand north. Would be nice to see a somewhat evolved society trying to get taken over by the NCR.

Of course the new vegas storyline would be the courier siding with the NCR, it would lead to some more interesting storyline development there as well.

Damn, didn't expect so many replies on a first post.

Anyway, I expect that Bethesda will be sticking in the US. I could be wrong of course, but there are so many places to cover still...

Now let's think...

Another game taking place in California is possible but not likely. What is the conflict? Who are the antagonists? The Enclave is shot to hell in the East, and the Legion is too far West. I suppose there could be a revolution of some kind, dissenters among the NCR, but I think it's too soon for that.

The NCR expanding north, retaking the East coast of Canada and forging on until Alaska actually shows major promise. A tundra environment would mean completely new creatures, especially if the FEV virus came into effect. There could be remnants of the Chinese, or new set of tribals. Intriguing...

There are plenty of other places on the West Coast that could be interesting. I could imagine some old Philadelphia or Massachusetts landscapes. Ghoul Minutemen! A new Continental Congress! Perhaps the Legion push West, having failed in the East? Or even... overseas contact?!?

Doubtful, probably not happening yet, but the West Coast, with old historical sites, NYC, and all it's history is a grat possible place to go.

However! There is also the Midwest. The Enclave may still be alive in Chicago, and the Legion is not too far away from here either! Now THAT could be a storyline, having Enclave vs. Legion. Caesar may survive Vegas, a chance to redeem himself then?

We also haven't touched the South much, Florida, New Orleans, you name it. I think the Everglades would be NASTY (can you say Radgators!?) but I think New Orleans would have a great atmosphere. Very mysterious, and you could just e out of a Vault stuck in the swamps!

Whew...

Scuse' my ramblin'. I can get worse than Moira Brown when it comes to Fallout.

So keep it coming people! What's yer thoughts!?

Personally, as someone literally from 'the Old World', I'd like to see a Fallout game set in the European Commonwealth. Even a small addon or DLC would do. It just seems strange to have a huge information blackout on what's happening in the rest of the world!

Some big European city like London or Rome would make an interesting change in terms of scenery and architecture, probably music as well. This quote from the Vault wiki shows that J. E. Sawyer would be up for it too;

A prequel to the Fallout series, Fallout: Resource Wars, set in a collapsing Europe (during the European Commonwealth's invasion of the Middle East), is one of the games that J.E. Sawyer would like to make if he could do any game, regardless of money and development time.

It sounds like a good way of getting some perspective on life before the bombs in other parts of the world, and maybe giving the developers a chance to explore ideas other than NCR/Enclave and [insert ruined US city here].
