Skeleton editing not possible?

Making new animations is currently impossible. (I swear we answer this three times a day.. should damn near make a sticky announcement stating that animations are not editable / creatable at this time lol)

would be nice to have an update sticky that has updated links to software necessary for modding when it becomes available

Making a sticky post about can and can't do's may not be a bad idea if it's that bad. Hell, if I could legally staple instructions for properly framing and flashing windows and doors onto my new guy's face, I would be saving a lot of time.

With a fairly new title, you are bound to have people that want to learn more. If a question like mine is so tedious that you have to comment on the tedium of answering it, just refer to the sticky.

There is one sticky, but I see nothing about animation, rigs and weather or not it is possible to modify them.

Well, it's lack of tools (kind of): the software that allows editing of Havok 64 bits is proprietary and very expensive. I don't exactly know the details, but my understanding is that Havok allowed the 32 bits to be modified freely once they had moved on to 64 bits, so I don't know how it's going to happen with 64 bits. I think people are working on a free version, but there might be some legal stuff going on. (Sorry if this made no sense, I'm very tired)

no worries i see what your saying, though i must say and forgive me if im overstepping bounds by suggesting this but would torrenting the required tools not work? i don't believe people would just lay down just because they have to pay for a software when things like torrents are readily available and most people would be none the wiser to the fact that the mod dev was using a torrented tool.

Using pirated tools might get you in trouble with Havok. I'm doubtful you could even find a legit pirated copy of the tools that are needed. There isn't even a button to buy anything on the Havok website. After a quick google search, it seems Havok costs 40k-120k USD. No way that's going to be released for free on the internet without Havok noticing and someone getting in big trouble.

I mean, if you guys are very motivated you already could edit a skeleton.

There's a tool called HKXPack that dumps the names & coordinates of the bone, around other data, and can put them up back to the in-game format. By adding new names and putting the coordinates manually, you could technically edit the skeleton and have it working in game.

I'm pretty sure dumping coordinates is the furthest we can do without problems, though.

The reason is that we are working on a tool to create FO4 animations from FO4 skeletons.

It makes sense to put the limit there because if we have a tool to edit skeletons in 3DsMax AND a tool to create animations from skeletons, we basically would have all of Havok for free, which isn't a good business model for Havok. I believe we can only have one, and I'd prefer if it was the one to create new animations y'see.

I missed the comment about torrenting it.. Just to be very blunt, that is a no-go around here, and torrenting / pirating will get you banned in a hurry. So, I wouldn't even be suggesting it, honestly.

As mentioned above, Havok is incredibly pricey anyway. Its not likely to exist out there aside from legit sources.

And I am not so much bored of answering the question as I am wishing people would do a little more searching first, as there were post very recently about this same subject more or less. *shrug*.
