worm82075
Lately I have found myself hanging out in the chat room and until today I've found it quite enjoyable. A member decided he would have a little contest/quiz game there and proceeded to post spoilers concerning many of Oblivion's quests. When I said something, I was told by the poster not to read his remarks. So my question is: Why is this general forum rule not enforced there? Should the chat not be a place for members to have neutral discussions without having to worry about game quests being spoiled?
TheReverendTholomewPlague
It's a generally accepted idea that if you don't want to talk about games and therefore potential spoilers, stay out of the chat.
ub3rman123
Oblivion had spoilers? I'd understand if it were Nehrim or something, but Oblivion's entire plot is "Save the world from demons." Still, it is kind of bad to post spoilers without warning, even if it's for a 5 year old game.
worm82075
It's a generally accepted idea that if you don't want to talk about games and therefore potential spoilers, stay out of the chat. This is exactly the attitude of some of the other chat goers. The problem is there are lots of forums here for discussing the game but a general rule is to keep spoilers in the spoiler forum. Either this general rule is enforced in the chat OR the chat rules need to explicitly state that talk of spoilers is allowed so people entering have fore warning that quest spoilers may be present there. sorceress99
"This is a general chat about anything and everything (within the rules) that our members want to talk about." Says so right on the front page before you enter chat. Nowhere does it say (in the rules) that spoilesr are disallowed in the chatroom. If it upsets you that you might see spoilers, then it's best not to enter the chatroom, or leave if you see any. Otherwise, there is nothing you can do about it. Since Oblivion has no fixed ending, the term 'spoilers' is rather meaningless. LOL Edited August 6, 2011 by sorceress99

worm82075
Having done some searching I've found that there is actually no rule that states spoilers are not to be posted anywhere on the forums. Technically you can be as inconsiderate as you wish and post spoilers anywhere in the forums you like with no reprimand for such actions. Apparently the Oblivion Spoilers Forum exists solely for the common courtesy of others but members here are not actually required to use it. Personally I think the chat rules should warn of the possibility of spoilers. That's just how I feel but then again I'm actually considerate of others and would not wish for their games to be spoiled with information about quests they haven't played. Is it silly of me to expect the same courtesy from everyone else? I guess so considering humans are selfish beings by nature. I actually thought that the members here would be at least as considerate as those on the official forums but then again it's a RULE there not to post spoilers outside the spoiler forums. So in actuality it's not that they are more considerate it's just that they are following the rules and since no such rule exists here, members are not required to show others such consideration. Oh well, end of story I suppose.
Thandal
Anyone who is metagaming to the extent of visiting the Nexus has no business complaining about spoilers in something as freewheeling as the Chatroom. And while not usually intentional, (rather, simply incidental to some other discussion) they do appear all over the Forums. Comes with the territory...

Spoilers aren't the Holy Grail people. While being considerate of someone who does't want to hear the ending is a courtesy, it is not a requirement in any chatroom I know of. I find it ludicrous that anyone would make an issue of having to hear a spoiler, especially with a game as old as Oblivion. I find the use of profanity in the chat room, especially by 13-17yo kids, quite irritating myself, yet I does me no good to compalin about it. And that is against the rules. As Thandal says, it comes with the territory Edited August 7, 2011 by sorceress99
bben46
We do slap the kiddies and those who are mentally kiddies with being kicked from chat for profanity. If they do keep it up or whine about their 'right' to use profanity they will get banned from TheNexus altogether.
