Fallout New Vegas G.E.C.K. Crashes on startup

Move the GECK.exe and all the dlls to the New Vegas folder: C:/Program Files (x86) or (x64)/Steam/Steamapps/Common/fallout new vegas

 

Run New Vegas until main menu (Continue, Load, Settings ect.).

 

Run GECK.

 

Thats how I did it anyway. Worked for me.

ive seen that question asked many times, and seen it answered too, but cant remember for the life of me what the procedure was. everywhere ive read it, they said it was very easy. maybe worthy of its own new thread question?

when you installed the geck, did you put it in the new vegas folder or the data folder?

 

it goes in the new vegas folder.

ok, i install the geck, it didn't work, so i look online and someone says it needs a fallout 3 file. so i put it with the geck. it starts and then crashes. i try to run fallout new vegas, it crashes before main menu, i am lost and need help.

When you say 'It didn't work' you mean it just flat out crashes, doesn't run, what?

 

If it's crashing on startup then:

Did you download the New Vegas version of the geck or the fallout 3 one? (They are both one the same page, so you may have gotten the wrong one).

Make sure you place all the files from the rar into your game directory. (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Fallout New Vegas)

Are you using an ENB? If you are make sure you remove it before you open the GECK otherwise it just crashes, well for me at least.

 

As for the crashing on running New Vegas

Did it start crashing after you installed the GECK or after you installed some mods?

If the latter, some mod probably required another mod that you didn't install.

which means you didn't read carefully enough and installed the fallout3 version of the GECK.

no i installed the fallout new vegas geck, and they both start but both crash before i can start the game or can do anything on the geck
