I think part of the problem here is, when folks are referring to pedo's, they reference CONVICTED peds..... those that have actually taken some action in pursuit of their desire. I think we can all agree this is a bad thing?

 

For those that "just look at pictures", and do whatever..... ya gotta keep in mind, someone has to MAKE those pictures..... I haven't met a little girl yet, that has told me she wants to be a porn star before she hits puberty.....

 

For my part, ANYONE that would take sexual advantage of a child, deserves to be taken out of circulation. Permanently. Be it prison, or a hole in the ground. End Of Problem.

 

That's exactly my point right from the start. I was never defending the sex offenders, I was defending those who aren't sexual offenders. Not even all pedophiles look at pictures of naked children. Some people around here seem to think that all pedophiles are sex offenders.

 

Did I say that all pedophiles are abusers. You don't need to have scientific proof to know that not all pedophiles are abusers. All you need to do is look at google how many people who are in jail, right now, for getting caught with pictures of little girls to see that. These people don't act upon their urges, but they certainly become they audience that gives those who do make child pornography an incentive to make more of these videos.

 

Look at the child modeling industry, for instance. It is a booming industry, that makes millions of dollars

Then what exactly was the problem? And looking at pictures of little children is definitely acting on your urges. Look at my reply to HeyYou just above here. I've been saying all along that not all pedophiles are sexual offenders, and that includes looking at pictures of little children.

 

Also, not all pedophiles even support the child modelling industry. You can't blame it's existence on pedophiles. The biggest abuse that occurs in the child modelling industry is the parents who abuse their children by putting them through that in the first place.

 

I blame child modeling on the parents. Why anyone would subject a child to that kind of environment/pressure is absolutely beyond me. I think that should be considered child abuse as well..

Yeah, I fully agree with you on that. I wish they'd stomp down on it entirely. From the few documentaries I've seen on it so far, it is certainly not in the children's best interest to put them through what they are being put through. That's no way for a child to grow up.

Attraction to a child is not a crime, neither is feeling an attraction 'acting on it'. Spreading child pornography and sexually harming a child is a crime.

 

But really now, it's 22:30 here where I'm at. I've been reiterating everything over, and over all day long. I'm tired. I'm really not in the mood to even argue with you anymore, because you simply miss the point of it all. If the entire audience and supporters for child modelling consists of pedophiles, we've got a pedophile epidemic on our hands. Bring your flamethrower. Anyways, I'm going to bed now.

JC, how the world is black and white for many of you. No room for people with disorders. Kill them, jail them, knock them down you say. That will sure remove the symptoms, but not the desease. Isn´t it just another pachtwork to continue that way? How about accepting that we acctually are dealing with some sick people, and we could help them? We could have some research, perhaps some medicine that helped. Good for the pedophiles, good for the little children, good for all of us. Halohoror I read all your post, and agree with you. Oh, yeah, sure. There is a "cure" for pedophiles. Just like there is a cure for gays. Or serial killers, or sociopaths. Etc. We don't have the faintest idea just what "makes" a pedo what he is. Nor do I expect that we will know for quite some time, if ever. There is research going on now, mapping the brain, and attempting to discover just what does what, I think it is more likely some 'knowledge' will come from that research, than any that can be done on those with aberrant behaviors. (not lumping gay's into this category) Considering the 'success' we have had with psychotropic drugs for treating things like depression, etc, Don't expect anything to happen for a couple more generations, at least. In the mean time, what do we do with these individuals? Should we be more 'understanding' that they have 'issues', and find some way to tolerate them in our society? Or, should we continue as we are, and lock them up? Removing the CURRENT threat from society. (albeit, not as successfully as we would like)

Pretty much just get pedophiles professional help to help them suppress their urges, and anybody who commits a crime of sexual abuse or who is found in possession of materials pertaining to sexual abuse against minors should get locked up.

Halororor, I am gay and resent being compared to paedophiles. To the person who lumped homosexuals in with serial killers, you ought to be ashamed of yourself.

 

An adult taking advantage of a child is wrong. A person who has urges to take advantage of another's defenceless state needs help to prevent hir from doing such a thing. Paedophilia is a disorder like narcissistic personality disorder or psychopathy and if there's a way to keep sufferers from harming others without bloodshed, I am all for it. People with mental disorders that involve violent psychosis are still people after all.

Halororor, while I see you thought process of trying to see the pedophile as more than a common criminal...as someone that needs to be studied more as to why sometimes they commit these acts and why some are able to restrain themselves through their lives. However....if I found out that my neighbor of some 60 years old, was a pedophile in thought but not action...I would have the deepest sympathy for them if they should announce this and to try to seek help.

 

But I would never leave my daughter alone around them. Ever...

 

So the patience people have for this kinda thing only goes so far. Unlike homo or bisexuality which usually is between two consenting adults....the practice of pedophilia is not. It is considered one of the most heinous and unforgivable of crimes because it is...at its base...an act that takes advantage of the innocence of the victims and in turn strips forever away that same innocence.

 

There isn't a lot of wiggle room here for trial and error when it comes to treating these people. Either you have to put them away or find something that will forever stop them from harming another child as long as they live.
