Halororor
I just bought it off Steam. Did I make the right choice? got the augmented edition as well? Well, retail uses Steam as well. I think so. Augmented edition is kind of a waste IMO but whatever makes you happy. Yeah. I was checking out the augmented edition, until I realised the only extras are 'making of' and stuff like that. Nothing that adds to gameplay. Big waste if you ask me.
Povuholo
It is fantastic. Everything you'd expect from a Deus Ex game. I'm so relieved, because it could've been bad.
Vindekarr
Well, Im actualy left feeling really bitter about Human Revolution. :( It's just so buggy-and badly thought ou. I don't know if my install went bungo but fr some reason vendors dont vend anything! It's only a problem since I rely on them for ammo and the stop! worms that make hacking playable. I didnt like the combat either, it's too stupidly easy-I finished the whole game with my beloved Glock with no trouble except for some RPG-needing moments(with robots) and I can kill virtualy anyone simply by hiding, and popping off singl headshots as per needed, they all die, and it's no fun! But the real problem I've noticed is that when I "knock someone out" they never wake up! I happily Tazed a club bouncer over the head thinking he'd wake out, mad as hell, and I'd be able to taunt him about it, but he's still down many missions later. I strongly suspect Sleeping Beauty's condition was caused by a nasty accident with the Deus Ex taser(instakill, never missing, cheap to run one-shot handgun of DOOM) Come on Eidos, why'd yer have to do such a crummy job? the investigating's supremely satisfying, but everything is just crummy. I have yet to play Deus Ex: HR, so I'll defend it from a Deus Ex point of view. The stunner is so useful because it has very limited ammo (You'll be hard pressed to find much later on), and because of the short range you have to be at to use it. The pistol is probably my favorite gun in the game, and it's somewhat realistic. If you cap someone in the forehead with 9mm, they're dead. I hate games which require you to unload whole magazines into a normal mortal. If you want temporary stunning, try the police baton (That is in there, right?). Povuholo
If you want temporary stunning, try the police baton (That is in there, right?).No, and this is kind of a big thing. Other than the takedowns (the ones that play a third person animation and burn energy) there is no melee combat in the game whatsoever. Kinda sucks. Also yeah it's a bit strange that knocked out NPCs never get up, if you come back to a HUB area after a few hours. They can still be woken up by other NPCs if they are found, but never by themselves. Also there are 4 boss fights in the game that can't be avoided. I just had the first and it kinda sucked. Shoot at it until it's dead. No stealth or non lethal options. It seems to be the most frequent issue that comes up in interviews. But those are the only complaints I have about the game. It's running well for me and I haven't run into any bugs. ub3rman123
Huh. Back in Deus Ex the stunner only lasted about 5 seconds, or until you hit them. Gas grenades work well for stunning temporarily then, or the pepper spray I have yet to use well.
Povuholo
Gas grenades can render enemies unconscious completely in Human Revolution, which is kinda nice. No longer hurting just their eyes with the grenades them and then hitting them in the back with a baton one by one. :P There's another grenade for a temporary stun now though. Strange isn't it, how everything in Human Revolution is more modern and powerful compared to the original game, even though it's a prequel. :P If JC Denton's brand new nano augmentations are supposed to be so much better than the old mechanical ones, I wonder what the nano augmentations would've looked like if Deus Ex 1 came out in 2011 instead.... Vindekarr: Did you go in guns blazing everywhere or did you also try the stealthy approach? I found the stealthy approach much more fun, as it was in the first game. Michlo
Im getting so much nostalgia of the first one how bout you guys? The stealth in this game is executed so perfectly. Gun play is a bit off but that sort of goes with the territory in this game. I don't want to spoil anything but the story is very dark like it should be, and in a way it is depressing. Very good game though, how are you guys liking it? Haha, I've thought the same about his chin. His voice on the other hand..... mmmmm. I'm really enjoying the game so far. Even on "normal" it gives a challenge. :) Vindekarr, how did you go from "great fun, one of the best shooters" to "buggy and bitter" so quickly? Vindekarr
Because the novely wore off on me pretty quickly mate. It's mainly the hacking. My favorite thing about it had been the fact that any set of tactics worked, but it feels like after a while they got lazy and stopped giving you as many options. Hengsha is aestheticaly beautiful but it's such a pain in the ass to play-there's a bunch of sections where you're locked into one single option, without even a single punch through the wall/airvent/window sill/drop down from above/pile of crates alternate route. The only way in was hacking, and I was really disapointed by that. Especialy since I'd made the decision to go "cold turkey" on anything that would make the problem solving easier, like hacking aids... Im sure the stealth could be fun, but it feels too Crysis-ey for me-Crysis did that perfectly and I want Deus Ex to feel distinct from Crysis, which in terms of gunplay, is a relatively similar game. I reached one point yesterday aswell, where I literaly couldn't complete a mission without 3 Stop! worms. Unfortunately I couldn' find a single one in either Detroit or Hengsha, so I'm stuck-you can't hack the mandatory terminal without either a truckload of praxis worth of hacking augs, epic superhuman hack skills, the luck of a leprechaun, or 2-3 Stop! worms, and I had neither so, with no other way in, I couldn't do the mission. Not happy 'bout that one, maybe I'm missing a detail, I hope so, but that one little section really hurt my opinion of the game with it's shear linearity. Combat's pretty terrible too, most of the time it's just a matter of mowing people down, but while that can be fun, Eidos somehow ensured it wasnt, and I think it comes down to the combat AI. Not in a long time have I seen an AI less entertaining to fight. It's braindead, it just stands there while you shoot at it most of the time. Even worse when you meet a big group-they usuly just blob up then get confused-at which point the pathfinding goes out the window. They don't try to evade grenades, they don't ever try to use team tactics, they just terminator-walk towards you or turtle in cover, with no variety beyond those two flawed tactics. Ehh, it's not a BAD game, it's just not one I enjoyed very much at all. The early sections are quite excellent, but the later parts just get worse, and worse, and worse. IMO I'd rather play the(rather similar) Crysis 2 than this, it's just not got nearly enough to pull me back in after a session. I think however you can see a pattern here: "it's just not" And that's the fundamental problem here, it could have been so good, and some aspects of it are amazing, but everything else, for me personaly, was just disapointingly mediocre. Im sure it will evolve a cult of hyper-devoted fanboys and win a million GOTYs but for me, it's just another mediocre, semi-linear FPS and one I'd really rather forget. Much like DNF, I wish I'd never played it, because it's made me lose my fanship of Deus Ex in general. Edited August 29, 2011 by Vindekarr
Halororor
Do you have the patch installed? The AI in mine is fine. I often have a hard time dispatching them. Then again, I also rarely shoot, because I always go for the stealth approach, which makes the game much, much harder. Only gripe I have so far is the rubbish boss fights.
