While that plug-in is nice, I shouldn't have to download a plug-in to fix a poor design decision. I mean no offense to Dark0ne, but it tells me a lot that he's chosen to go with a site layout that makes poor and inefficient use of space just because it makes his life easier.

I'm not a web designer, though I have taken web design classes, but I am in the design industry. Specifically Architecture. One thing we were taught is that it's not enough to just have a good design. It also has to be presented well. This site does not do that.

Pray do tell, what does it tell you?

Um, considering all the problems that he has actively been trying to fix, I don't really think that this choice of updating the layout makes his life any easier you know... Or do you think that he is just a masochist? ...Oh dear.... o_O

It says to me that while you're willing to put a lot of time and effort into the site, you're unwilling to put forth the extra time to make it as good as it could be. When presented with two options, working with variable width that makes better use of space, but is harder to work with or fixed width that is easier to work with but makes poor use of space, you went with the easy one.

Void space is a very useful design element. It helps keep things from looking cluttered, among other things. The space between objects is often just as important as the objects themselves. This site, though, doesn't really have void space, it has dead space. It's just empty and useless.

@Dark0ne,

Ok, I understand that you will not consider making the layout dynamic again, as you closed my topic about this in the Forum.

That being the case, is there any chance of developing (at some point once the dust has settled) a mechanism to allow users to choose the fixed-width from a few choices (i.e. 960px, 1200px, 1440px)?

I have been following all of your blog posts the past few months but don't recall you ever specifying a reason or I wouldn't have asked. I'll go digging for further details.

I'm 100% with Tapioks though. Once you get things settled and the current bugs worked out, would you consider making optional larger widths, perhaps even making it a premium only option?
