billyro
I dislike the compass. It ruins everything. I have a brain in my head (yeah, I know) and I enjoy using it.
DisintergrateHorseArmor
I'm sure if they have gone so far as letting you remove them that they have thought about giving you directions. Maybe not full voice acted directions, but probably some details will update in your journal. They wouldn't allow you to turn the markers off without giving you some direction, otherwise you couldn't do your quests! (or would they?) :P
JimboUK
Now the question is whether they'll actually consider the no-quest-markers option and actually give you directions to places. I asked about this.... http://twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon/status/109633410116497408
Iv000
I asked about this.... http://twitter.com/#!/DCDeacon/status/109633410116497408 Good work Jim! I'm pleased to hear that we can finally remove quest markers, and find the things we search for without them.
JimboUK
I followed up asking about locations but his feed has gone quiet, if I get a reply later I'll post it.
Blu02
They wouldnt have to record unique directions for everything. The player ask the question, and since you dont have a voice, a unique text-message is all that is needed. The NPC could simply say "No, I'm sorry but I do not know this person/place", or "Yes, I might know who this is/where this is" and *Pling* there's an updated entry to your diary, or something. This would be enough for me at least. Anyways, this is great news, eventhough I'm sure a mod would fix this within the first week :D Edited September 2, 2011 by Mr. Bravo
Revengeance
When you think about, the quest markers aren't always unrealistic. If an NPC tells you to go somewhere and do something, then naturally they'd mark the place on your map. I do like the idea of having no quest markers, though, as long as proper directions are given. SansSword
How about this for a happy medium: an actual parchment MAP with locales and landmarks on it, with a big circle over where you currently are and a big X over your current objective. Bit more realistic that way, an actual map as Revengeance alluded to. You have to keep checking your map (as a real traveler does) as you walk, but you just head straight for the X that was marked. I completely agree about the parchment map. That's what I want to navigate with, not a hightech-3D-GPS-2000. In Oblivion I always prefered a map-mod which added this old and worn handmade map, with "scribbled" markers and locations instead of flashy icons. That adds a lot more to immersion if you ask me. Hopefully this will be mod-able!
