ripple
I've just returned to this site after a long hiatus and saw the changes. Can I ask why the interface was so drastically altered? I always found the previous layout to be fairly intuitive and easy to navigate. Now there is an enormous navigational menu cluttering up the right half of the screen even as I am sorting through all the files, file descriptions, file info, and comments, all crunched together in the left half of the screen. Is there a way to remove that damn navigational menu from constantly being displayed? I have found nothing in members preference to adjust the layout setting. Oh, the humanity.... Dark0ne
Well there are plans to allow users to pick between having the conventional left and right menus, or stick with the default double right menus. So you'll just have to wait until then.
Jimpy
I thought the old style was hard, this is just totally insane. I have never seen a website do this. It is so confusing.
ResidentWeevil2077
Hahaha....I am sorry, I had to vent. That enormous menu is just so....too too much!I agree - I kinda liked the old layout better. OR, maybe you could keep the new layout, and just minimize the navigation controls to roughly half the size they are now. Anyway, I like the new site design better, keep up the good work, Dark ;)
Storm Raven
Dark One, Because I know you are considering changes to the Downloads section of the site, and because I have some experience with web site design. What if: You went to a one Column design for your menu. Like this: It could be either right or left side. You could also move the Search function to a horizontal bar underneath the tabbed buttons. Home Register Files Search Contact File search: x Name: x Category: x Go x Advanced By Tags Main • News • News Archive • About Us • Contact • Advertise Files • Index • Browse categories • Updates today • Updates recently • Latest files • Top 100 • Advanced search • Tag search Image Share • View images • Manage images Community • Forums • Login • Register Latest news • Tagging and you • Morrowind Modding community • Image Share launched • What's happening? • Advanced file search now available Poll Do you like the new site? Yes No I don't care! Current Results Yes I know its boring (looks like all the other sites), but they use this design for a reason. It’s simple and people are familiar with it. The reason most designers tend to put the menus on the right is that it is easier to code percentage widths to the left column to allow for variable screen widths. People are quite familiar with scrolling down to find what they want. Personally I find 3 column web sites difficult to code for variables in user screens, and cluttered visually. Three (or) more column designs were created for newspapers that needed to sell ad space. You don’t see them in many books because books are designed to be read, despite all the hog wash about columns being easier to read. It’s about the MONEY silly. If I have mussed anyone’s feathers up I deeply apologize, that was not my intention. DarkStormRaven  There was a topic for suggetions of htis type but I could not find it. Sorry if this is the wrong place.
