Harbringe
Thanks for the responses tguys, very encouraging. Current setup is as follows. CPU: i-7 quad, 240 series. MOBO: Gigabyte tech EX-58. GPU: EVGA GTX580 Black Ops(overclocked) RAM: 3X Corsair 2GB stick, 1100 MHZ DDR3. HDD: 2X 500 GB HDDs, RAID. PSU: 720 CoolerMaster(getting old and tired) Case: NZXT Hush Black with it's front door falling off. Conclusion: Still strong but in dire need of upgrades to bring it into the 21st century, PSU nearly dead, shambolic case. Ok that is a strong system ,really the only bottleneck you have is your ram , really a system like that should have 16 GB of the highest MHZ frequency type ram your mobo can take . As it is now your ram is not allowing you to take full advantage of what you already have . If your PSU is flaky then that is something I would get on right away ,as it can compromise everything else. Here,s a link to a site that goes into rigorous testing of gear. Your case well thats just aestethics ,if it works then its good ,as for the broken door , if it bothers you take it off , really cases with doors are one of dumbest things they came up with , computers are meant to be used not looked at. Honestly I don't know of anything coming out in gaming that if you upgraded your Ram would seriously tax what you already have for 2 maybe 3 years ( if that ) and what I would be thinking is maximize what I already have and plan for 2 - 3 years down the road to get an entire new system. PS I assume your HD's are at least 7200 rpm , if not they should be. Edited September 11, 2011 by Harbringe
prandiningrat
For case, I suggest for this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133188 (No PSU)

This is what I would do with your system Buy an closed cooling system and overclock the CPU or waste money on a 990X.Get 24GB of ram because it's cheap, it doesn't need to be rated fast, just something that works with your overclock.Maybe buy an AMD 6690 but probably just keep the 580 for now.Get faster hdds. Get at least 1 SSD like a small vertex2/3 for games. Vraptors or short stroked 3TB drives. If the PSU is browning out then get a new one.Skip the case, it doesn't make the computer run faster. [edit] +probably just keep the 580, -raid vraptors Edited September 11, 2011 by cancausecancer
