Iv000
I'd expect an average PC to be able to perform better than a games console! In fact, I can make Oblivion look much prettier on my PC than on my xbox but it doesn't run as well. Fact is that the specs of the 360 haven't changed since 2005 yet Skyrim, which is a large, complex open-world game with stunning graphics can run on it... so it's hardly a "pos" ;-)It all again depends on optimization.I guess that optimizing for a 360 is millions times easier then for PC.A 360 has always the same hardware, while PC can have all kinds of combinations. If games on PC would be optimized like on consoles, I could have Crysis 2 open in 3 windows at the same time and have it running on maximum graphics. mikedepreston
It all again depends on optimization. Indeed and it looks like they've done a hell of a job this time round. I was amazed that you could get a game like Oblivion or GTA4 on a console. The 360, or any console, has a standard set of hardware... PCs can be any kind of configuration really, so yes I should imagine much more difficult to optimise for.
bben46
We really won't know until we see it. And it will depend on what hardware your PC has. I suspect a console will handily beat out a PC that was not actually meant as a game machine - and that includes most of those sold in big box stores. It will also outperform a 6 year old PC that has not been upgraded with more ram and a newer video card. . And if you really want to compare console to PC you need to limit the FPS on the PC to the same as the console - usually locked at 30FPS which is usually considered minimum by PC players. That 30FPS lock is one of the tricks that the console uses to keep gameplay smooth. As they control the hardware, the game is optimized for the console and not the PC. YOU have to do a lot of the PC optimizing yourself because the hardware in a PC is not standardized.

Blu02
Lets not forget different drivers, operating systems, background-activites, etc. The software on consoles stays a lot cleaner and up-to-date without any help or knowledge from the user. This is a huge advantage when it comes to making full use of a poor old systems limited resources, compared to the avarage PC-user that keeps tons of ridiculous background-activites and outdated drivers that sucks out half of their recourses before even starting the game. topeira
its amazing to think how skyrim would have looked like if the XBOX and PS3 came out 2 years ago instead of 6. i wish i had a console so i could play the exclusive games im missing (red dead, dark souls, demon souls, , uncharted, God Of War 3, Gears of war 3 and many more that im missing) but i am fully aware that the console's hardware is holding the tech back a lot. when the next console generation will come out and my PC will become obsolete again i will be jaw dropped, im sure. im really eager to see what will games looks like once we get developers to start using the tech that came out in the past couple of years. i mean, the witcher 2 is stunning and even THAT game was created with consoles in mind. if it wasnt than it would have looked even better..... yet probably run worse :P it's been a long time since i upgraded (3 years) and that just shows you (and me) how much of the power of the current hardware is not being used. I can imagine quite a few well worn consoles are going to bite the dust in the middle of an 18hr Skyrim marathon as they are pushed to their limits and aren't given a break once per hour as is recommended by the manufacturer. 1 hour on, 15 mins off. I don't know anyone that does that. Consoles will be exploding worldwide.
Lord J
Well most PCs are newer than the Xbox 360 so that should speak for itself. The Xbox is old hat. If it can run a fast game, so can a PC.
