What happened to The Rebel by L0rd0fWar?

Blame Bethesda and corperate greed. Been on the Nexus for years. Modded 3, NV and Tale of Two Wastelands to hell and back more times than I care to admit. An hour after playing Fallout 4 the first time and I couldn't help but sit in awe at the balls Bethesda had on them.

The unmodded, vanilla Fallout 4 is basically a really well voice acted Skyrim mod built on a tweaked Skyrim engine using of a pile of stolen, ported Fallout 3, NV and Skyrim Nexus mods. it's like they didn't even try to hide it.

Yeah, we take liberties with our own personal copies of games, but the vast majority don't steal from each other. We mod for fun and try to keep it civilized. Bethesda, well, not so much. They're protected legally, so cherry picking the modding sites, throwing together an unfinished mess, slapping Fallout 4 on it and then selling it back to the same people you stole from, all so you could sit back and watch them repair it's shortcomings, building you another game for free? It's not only fair game to them, it's an established way to make millions of dollars.

They must think it's hilarious.

The BEST WAY, to get back and REALLY make anyone who brings you down pay for what they've done L0rd0fWar... is to keep doing what you love to do, and who knows, maybe someday you'll release others again, but if you ever do,... then make sure you're doing it because it brings you happiness! (and whatever you decide to do is your business)

It must be so frustrating, when someone steals this thing you've put so much effort/time and love into... The mod-makers...they've been robbed of this thing they love so much, but some totally greedy, and ungrateful individual, decided to essentially take away the joy they get from making these mods! Because after all, these modders pour their heart and souls into these mods just to make us gamers smile, and say to ourselves "That is SO COOL Looking!" or "Wow! this totally changes my game experience in a REALLY COOL WAY!" ...or things like that.

So the advice i would give is to KEEP MODDING! Keep doing the things that bring you joy! Because for all you know, the person(s) who did take your projects without permission, could very well be gloating over it.... And the BEST payback you can dish out, is to keep enjoying what you do, and keep sharing them, and keep growing as an artist! (because thats essentially what all of your modders are is "Artists" and thats a total compliment!

Nice argument that has been stated to death, pointed out inaccuracies and laughed at.

What did Bethesda steal? Settlement building? Surprise! Base building is not a new thing in game development and has been around for decades or what, are we now going to say games like Starbound and Subnautica stole ideas from Fallout 3 mods for having done similar things? This can go with every pathetic claim you can make up about "Oh no Bethesda is stealing mods!" which in itself is laughable without needing to explain why.

Don't know about what's been stated to death and what hasn't. Don't care, either.

Read a few words of your post, shook my head, stopped.

20 years on the internet, you think you're the first person I've seen pushing hate on a forum to ease their pain?

Go hug someone for godsakes.

I'm not pushing hate, I'm pointing out your claim of "BETHESDA IS STEALING MODS!" is nothing but false information built on pathetic reactionaries trying their best to attack Bethesda.

Well, we can't all be as well informed as you are.

Pathetic reactionaries. I like that. You use that a lot, I bet.

Most of these responses, they come off like, I don't know, they been fine tuned. Years of forum combat.

Lots of hate in you.

I'm sorry you're so angry.

Let's not argue! lets take MY advice and just keep making amazing mods that everyone LOVES! The hate, when you "Attack" another person on a forum really only only gives you about what?...like 5 whole minutes of satisfaction that makes you feel like you "1-Upped" this other "forum warrior" or that other one guy who didnt like your post...,

But lets remember that when we are behind the anonymity of a computer screen, remember that Behind that screen: #1) you are still a human being,... #2) You feel all the things the rest of us do, like Fear, shame, feeling picked on, scared, pushed around etc etc... #3: It takes a really amazing person to attempt to see someopne elses point of view, so TRY to be that amazing person that you are capable of being!

Example: Person #1 Feels Bethesda "Liberated" the hard work of Mod Authors.
Person #2 disagrees
Now rather than Bickering back and forth, How about Person number 2 asks person number 1 to: "Please give specific examples of tangible content that they feel is stolen". Then Person #1 can cite those examples, And we can all have an intelligent, adult style conversation and actually learn something new and interesting! Because you never know, maybe they did help themselves to something a lowly mod auther created,

BUT In researching this i've realized that we've also got to remember that "Legally Speaking"... Most game companies who allow and support modding, add clauses to their "Eula" that allows them to use any content you create with THEIR Resources. When we buy a game, we are buying the right to experience something another group of artists have created, So technicly as far as the law is concerned, They allow us to use their content to make our own imaginings of their Game-World a reality for ourselves to enjoy. The moment we share that publicly it becomes theirs to do with as they wish. Because they were kind enough to let you use their assets.

As for myself, I learned something! (i learned about the whole process from a more open and pioneering company who has always encouraged modders to mod their games Which is "Bohemia Interactive" and their "Arma" series of games, They actually state right out front that they are letting you "the Mod creator" "BORROW" and do what you want but they tell you straight up, they reserve the right to use that content if you share it Publicly. Bethesda does the same probably, and they just aren't as "Forthcoming" about it outta' the gate.

if you used their tools and assets that would be right and even though not in most cases, but in case like adding new meshes and textures to the game it's different story. in the matter of fact the only tools that i am thankful for are

3ds max nif plugin and FO4edit, i noticed that the majority doesn't have a clue about character design process, i will try to make it simple by comparing it to the way the developer create their assets it's almost similar except it's much harder since i am working alone and without proper import/export tools. i was hesitating to share my work at first, i was afraid that a scenario like that would happen or worse, companies knows how to defend themselves unlike individuals they are vulnerable.

@onelunglee, Bethesda did manage the situation very poorly, but i don't hate them. after all they made us some good games, but also people should bare in mind that mods extend the game life for free.

Well I have personally seen a lot in the past month or two about us "console peasants" and in no way am I meaning that I take offense. It does suck how most of my community have welcomed modders. But it is also new and people have to learn the respect an how it works. Hopefully it gets better an people learn to not steal someone's art because from my perspective it is someones art they intended to share with others to enjoy. To have it reloaded to another place with another name on it sucks an disheartening. To all pc players an modders on here I for one apologize for how this merge has gone thus far an hope it gets better. Good luck to all an have a good one! Edited by Gas76monkey
