Stolen Mods

hi everyone on nexus who happens to read this console gamer here (also skyrim on pc) not fallout 4 sadly pc lacks power to run it

please please dont punish the larger crowd for the actions of a few i know how much work is put into everyone and many console gamers do to (if there like me ive been stalking mod sites since the annoucement of console mods) basically all im trying to say is dont give up on consoles and sorry on behalf of the idiots who think its right to steal peoples hardwork.

I personally don't have anything against console players - I guess I'm just on the outside of all the swirling "conflict" that seems to be going on.

But anyway, the reason I personally don't like Bethesda.net has nothing to do with console gamers. And if I make console ports of my mods, I will happily put the ports on Bethesda.net so you guys can get them.

I don't like using Bethesda.net as a hosting site for the PC mods I make because 1) the site is un-intuitive, difficult to use, and lacks a lot of critical features for the upkeep of a mod page, 2) it's a piece of cake for people to get away with re-uploading your mod under their name.

yeah that whole thing confused me to, its not needed thats why we have nexus, but the way things are going all console users will suffer for the ignorance of a few, i know mod authors will be pi**ed over this but a lot of console users are to cause we know in the long run we suffer yeah cool we get a few mods now but future support for these isnt going to happen or new mods its sad i thought better of my community

Not only console users, buddy. PC users will get the backlash from those thefts. For example, Elianora has taken down all of her mods from Nexus so that people won't steal her work. She is my favourite mod author since a couple years back, and this has me pissed off. Really pissed off

She'll probably be the first of quite a few before this plays itself out. I heard that it is possible for mod authors to actually script their mods to make them to not work and/or break saved games on the console. Now I think that would be a bit too much. Most console users are decent people and shouldn't have that happen to them. But the losers who actually steal the mods and then upload them and even worse those users who support those losers are the problem.

There are functions to detect what platform the code is running on.

While it would be possible to make a mod that 'refused' to run on consoles. Pirates have to use the CK to upload it to Beth anyway. They already open the mod and could just remove the code anyway.

Not every pirate will know how to find the code or remove it, so it is one more degree of protection. But it isn't a 100% solution.

it would stop as consoles cant support it, however moddders shouldnt have todo this its stupid how bad the console community has behaved today (the small amount) im selling my console next week gunna upgrade my pc and leave this crap behind!

What if the mod was made F4SE dependent?

While this is another level of protection, I don't see that as 100% either.

If your adding F4SE dependence to your mod when it doesn't need it (just to restrict people), what stops the pirate from removing the dependence and your mod works now?

I just don't see a third party tool as an solution you could depend on going forward. Absolutely no offense to the wonderful work of F4SE, just as a theoretical point.

So, what if we tried a different approach. Do you think there might be a way to install some file in our fallout 4 folders and then make that mod dependent on that file? I know I sound like an idiot right now, but I'm pretty sure that consoles are limited on how much they can do with their core files and I know ini changes won't work. Wouldn't a modular design be an option. As it is, you can only download one file at a time on Beth.net, so that may be advantageous to anyone trying to block this.

I would've assumed you needed the PC version of Fallout to edit files and upload it to Bethesda.net. Anyway this is an unfortunate thing to happen those stolen mods are already removed and hopefully their accounts have been permanently banned I myself have reported a few and told a modder that his mod was stolen. I was surprised that a lot of console gamers were refusing to download these mods though and even more surprised at the few idiots actually going along with it lol modpirate....really.
