Missing textures for Argonian and Kajitt

The upper and lower body rextures for my Argonian and Kajitt are missing. They are purple and splotchy. In back they are split two-toned with one side light colored and the other dark. The Argonian is missing the teeth and tongues. The Kajitt mouth seems ok but the feet are human shaped. How do I fix this?

If you're using any race mods, list them. You're talking of some things not working only mods can make working to begin with, and we will need to know which ones they are.

Apart from that, are you using any body replacer? It sounds like the wrong textures are used on the wrong body meshes.

This can be either Vanilla textures used on body mod meshes (Archive Invalidation for the textures not working or not applied at all),

or body mod textures used on Vanilla meshes, as in the replacement files from the body mods aren't working or were not installed properly.

The first (=replacement files not working) can be caused by the UAC when on Vista/Win 7 and having the game installed to the default location, somewhere inside program files.

This is especially true for Steam Oblivion, as steamapps also resides in this troublesome over-protected system folder.

But Steam in general can also cause these issues by the wrong file dates on the BSA files preventing replacer-type mods from working at all.

This can be fixed by clicking "Reset BSA timestamps" in OBMM's Archive Invalidation Utilities and then making sure you're using BSA Redirection with the default settings, or using a manual file redating tool as directed to in certain steam forums I don't know and then BSA Redirection either through OBMM, Wrye Bash, or the famous mod "ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!", which all do the same, adding an empty dummy BSA into your data folder and altering your "oblivion.ini" so this file gets used in place of the textures BSA in the "sArchiveList" entry and thus becomes the only BSA the contents of which require Invalidation anymore. It's one-time-only and eliminates the need for Archive Invalidation itself entirely.

Once you applied BSA Redirection make double sure there's no left-over "ArchiveInvalidation.txt" files anywhere in your folders, maybe from previous attempts at Archive Invalidation or created by misleading instructions in outdated readmes or something. Those files will now instruct the game to use certain external files over the internal ones in the "empty" dummy BSA, which as you can guess is a bad idea, now that there are no files inside there anymore to begin with, and will only lead to multiple random issues.

@DrakeTheDragon

Appreciate the help!

First off, I don't use Steam (I have cd) and I am using WinXP. So those issues are N/A.

Race mods are.. Abriael_Human, Ancient Elven Sorceress, Asian Elves, Chocolate Elves, DK Imperial, Gypsy Moon, HalleBerry, Hidden Elves, IDKRRR_C, IDKRRR_Saram, Kani Elves, LDJ Human.

My Oblivion.Ini reads..

[Archive]

bInvalidateOlderFiles=1

SArchiveList=ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated!.bsa, Oblivion - Meshes.bsa, Oblivion - Textures - Compressed.bsa, Oblivion - Sounds.bsa, Oblivion - Voices1.bsa, Oblivion - Voices2.bsa, Oblivion - Misc.bsa

SInvalidationFile=ArchiveInvalidation.txt

Most of my esp are dated year 2000 which I think was a result of using wyre bash. Even recently installed ESPs are dated 2000. I dont know why that is happening.

The only body mod I use is HGEC DMRA and have for years. The texture change is a recent event.

There are no ArchiveInvalidation.txt files that I can find.

I use BOSS for my load order and running OBSE20.b

I did recenty install the Improved Facial Textures mod.

I am not sure what you mean by making sure I am using BSA Redirection? I am using OBMM and the BSA Redirect is ticked in the Utilities. Could you explain more about that?

No need, that's the right one. You "are" using BSA Redirection for Archive Invalidation already, I can spot the dummy BSA in the list.

Well, looks like for once there are no UAC or A.I. issues to blame for here.

Just for explanation:

The file date of ESPs or ESMs makes their place in load order, so this one being automatically redated by OBMM and others is perfectly in order. I was only talking of the file date of the BSAs and only when from Steam Oblivion.

Oblivion's very centered around file dates for priority decisions, and BSAs with a date of 2011-something (again, I don't know "which" date, creation, last modified, whatever, I only know that's the case, and also not for "all" Steam users, it appears) will always have their contents favoured over external resource files from 2006-10, no matter how perfectly fine your Archive Invalidation is configured or whatnot, the game will just stick to the default files inside the BSAs, until the dates get fixed. Again, this is only for when using Steam Oblivion, and it's only hear-say, as I'm not using Steam myself, but it's hear-say from >50 successful fixes following my instructions up to now with exactly this cause, so I'm led to believe it's true.

This aside, I'm not seeing any mods giving your Khajiit non-human feet in this list, so don't know where you got this expectation from, and all those mods are unrelated to effects on Argonians or Khajiit anyways, unless there's changes in them which weren't documented or simply shouldn't be there in the first place.

There must be some mod you installed recently which changed your Argonian and Khajiit body textures away from DMRA-fitting ones. I doubt it was IFT, as it only replaces face textures and age maps (if at all) and it should have been IAFT (A for Argonian) for it to even affect Argonians at all. I'm a little stumped as to what could be causing the issues you described.

Maybe give us a complete listing of your load order and the OMODs you installed? Both should be easily printable from OBMM. Just insert it into a "spoiler" tag (it's the left-most pulldown above the input field showing "Other styles" by default), if not even done so by the printout already, so it won't spam a whole page or something.

  • 3 years later...

I wanted to make a female Argonian in Skyrim that I could stand to look at, and I'm proud to say that I pulled it off by using these two mods:

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/17488/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D17488%26preview%3D&pUp=1

http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/62574/?tab=1&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Fskyrim%2Fajax%2Fmoddescription%2F%3Fid%3D62574%26preview%3D&pUp=1

But somehow in the midst of all, both male and female Argonian NPCs have lost their body textures COMPLETELY... not to mention that the their tongues, teeth and mandibles are all floating where their left shins used to be! How this happened is completely beyond me. I've tried every Argonian retexture available online, but none of them will bring the bodies back to normal- let alone render them VISABLE again. What really blows my mind about all this mess, is how in the heck did the MALE Argonians get dragged into it??? I never did anything to alter their forms, but nothing seems to restore the default body/hands/feet meshes & textures to their vanilla state. Its quite frustrating. I've put too much work into my hybrid Argonian "Marshwalker", but the author of the head replacer mod has grown complacent and appears to have abandoned his work on the mod. Aside from disabling EVERY SINGLE ARGONIAN NPC in Skyrim, I'm at a loss as to how and handle this dilemma. Advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

This is the "Oblivion" section though, technically the "wrong game", just of the same series.

The people hanging around here do not necessarily know anything about Skyrim at all, and aren't guaranteed to be able to help you much. I for one know I don't and am not.

You'd be more successful asking in the "Skyrim" section instead, if the topics of the mods themselves are out of question.

Right on top the list of all games the Nexus hosts mods for found inside the "Nexus site forums" folder above.

Or just go here and ask inside the "Skyrim Technical Support" or "Skyrim Mod Troubleshooting" sections found within:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/408-skyrim/

(It's the same place you get to when clicking on the "Forums" button on top when on the Skyrim file site.)

I'm wondering how you got into here to begin with, as the way inside here is leading you over several places that all say "Oblivion", or you'll always have passed the "Skyrim" section as well anyways on the way in here. But it doesn't really matter much either anymore by now.

I found my way here via a Google link on the subject of Argonians missing textures. I do play both games, by the way... but the Google link mentioned NOTHING about OBLIVION being the subject in question. Their bad... NOT MINE! I'm not a complete airhead, if that's what you're trying to imply, DrakeTheDragon!!! ;-P

To prove my point, I did finally find the area I was supposed to be posting in (for Skyrim). But don't kid yourself, buddy. Nexus is NOT as easy to navigate as you'd like to make it out to be! :wallbash:

Greetings to all!

Forgive me if I grow weary after days of seeking solutions to the problems that exist in my game currently. I have recently been trying out new female Argonian head replacers and body textures that are compatible with CBBE, to make a very ugly race (IMO) more tolerable and cosmetically pleasing. First, I will add links to all of the mods I used in my process. Then, out of sheer exhaustion, I will copy and paste the comments I've left in the comments sections of the mods related to the issues I'm having. Please know that I have searched the web via Google in every possible attempt to find a remedy to this dilemma, including a search for ways to restore Skyrim's "Vanilla" default Argonian male & female body meshes/textures. Forgive me if the tone of some of my posts are abrasive, or even extreme. As I mentioned, I have been actively seeking solutions literally for days now. It has consumed all the free time I would normally spend enjoying the game, and problem-solving is just an activity I pursue with hopes of being able to return to normalcy ASAP.

At the risk of being redundant, I will say this again because I do not wish to be BANNED or disliked. Worse still, I would NEVER want to be labelled a "TROLL".
Thanks in advance for your patience and assistance regarding the matter.

I will start by listing the link that started the avalanche.

Now I will repost the comments I've already made in the comments sections of the aforementioned mods, simply because I see no point in reiterating the entire issue.

1)

This mod was merely an afterthought, suggested by another Modder.
Strange things happened after I used the "Human Beast Races- Revamped" mod:

http://www.nexusmods...&preview=&pUp=1

Nothing personal against the modder, JazzJR AKA FallenAngle- as this Argonian retexture was actually suggested by McGarnagIe (author of the mod I linked above), but MONSTEraider's Feminine Khajiit textures for CBBE amazed me, so I tried his Feminine Argonian Textures (for CBBE) to see how they compared.

http://www.nexusmods...&preview=&pUp=1

As it turns out, this was an investigation based on a post in the comments section of the Human Beast Races-Revamped mod, which was answered by its own poster, whom I agree with. MONSTEraider's textures look a little off at first, but after opening up "showracemenu" via Race Menu :

http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/29624/?

...I was able to blend the colors of the head replacer to the textures supplied by MONSTEraider and IMO- they were a far better texture match than those supplied here (which are snake-like... shiny and sans-nipples, to my dismay! Moreover, the textures offered here are reminiscent of the Kothringi branch of the Argonian family, which were said to be almost mirror-like (if you've ever taken the time to read the 2920 book series by Carlovac Townway). Nothing at all in resemblance to Skyrim's existing Argonian head models, which remind me of raptors, more than anything.

Finally, to the crux of the matter...
Upon deciding that these textures supplied here were less applicable, I removed JazzJr's Argonian textures, only to discover that EVERY SINGLE MALE & FEMALE ARGONIAN NPC HAD COMPLETELY LOST THEIR BODY TEXTURES, not to mention some very odd issues concerning the Argonian heads (which were left floating mid-air after using the command: "removeallitems" on them. IE- the lower part of the mouths were either missing (in the male case) or misplaced, down by where the female Argonians' left shin ought to be!
IE- If you apply these textures and then decide to remove them later- THEY TAKE THE DEFAULT ARGONIAN MALE & FEMALE TEXTURES OUT ALONG WITH THEM!

In other words, JazzJR's "retextures" REPLACE the default textures! And apparently, (if this is not an isolated issue) the familiar Skyrim Argonian default meshes/textures are no longer ANYWHERE to be found on the PC... or at least mine, sadly. HINT: Back up all of your Argonian meshes/texture files and put them safely in a folder on your desktop BEFORE trying either McGarnagle's OR FallenAngle's mods!!! Under NORMAL circumstances, using the Nexus Mod Manager prevents bizarre screw-ups like this from occurring, but not this time!

I have done everything within my power to restore DEFAULT Argonian meshes/textures, but I have yet to find ANY mod that will restore any sort of normalcy to the Argonian NPCs in my (Skyrim) game.
At this moment, JazzJR is probably rolling on the floor with laughter over my debacle, whilst McGarnagIe is MIA. But this is a word of warning to my fellow gamers, more than anything... and a humble cry for help. I don't want my beautiful "Marshwalker" to be the only surviving (fully intact) member of the Argonian species for the unforeseeable future! I've tried every combination of Google search, but there are no solutions, as of yet. BE WARNED.

2)

Hey!
I love the head replacer, but like Ra0999- I'm having some serious issues with the Argonian population.
"So I have run into a problem, when I download this I get the Marshwalkers (I'm using the standalone version) but their heads are that of what I believe are High Elves. Another thing that has happened is that the Argonians have no hands and their bodies are scaleless and look like human bodies. Any suggestions on what to do?"- Rao999
Well, in my situation, once you hit them (both male & female) with the console command: removeallitems... OMFG! They aren't just missing HANDS and SCALES... THEIR BODIES AREN'T THERE AT ALL!!! To make matters even more freaky- the lower insides of their mouths are just floating around, down about where their left shins should be!!!
MONSTEraider's body replacer works beautifully on my standalone "Marshwalker", and his Khajiit body replacer works just as nicely on the NPC Khajiit as it does on my Khajiit character... but his Female CBBE Argonian replacer doesn't replace the female Argonian bodies. As a matter of fact, I've tried just about EVERY Argonian body replacer, both here on the Nexus AND elsewhere. Nothing fixes them thus far.
What really boggles me, is how the male Argonians got dragged into this confounded issue! I never did anything to change their bodies, but they are just as GONE as the female bodies are!!! I'm half-tempted to try Den987 Naiad Argonian female replacer and then reinstall MONSTEraider's textures back over them again, but it doesn't say in Den987's description that it would alter the males in any way. I'm Baffled! At least my female Marshwalker is one hot lizard, but for the rest of them- IDK. So disgusted after trying to solve this issue for 15 hours, I'm ready to go around and disable every stinkin' Argonian NPC, just so I don't have to be reminded of this atrocity. :'-(

And finally... the 3rd iteration:

3)

NOTE: I'm reposting the same comment I left on JazzJr's Argonian Retexture comment section HERE, with the only intention being to draw attention to this problem in sincere hopes of having it addressed by the authors, moderators and experts in this field. Forgive me if any of it is redundant, in regards to my previous posting below. Please keep in mind: this is NOT a personal attack on any modder. I love the Skyrim modding community- without them, the game would be so much less impressive. Thanks for your attention, consideration and patience.
Sincerely,
Dallesse

I really don't understand how half of this stuff works... and what I have learned was entirely by trial & error. (Believe me- the ratio between failures and

Thank you for your time!
